Audience Reaction to These Days songs?
 

I was just curious how the audience reacted to These Days, Diamond Ring and Misunderstood...but mostly the first two. I hope they went nuts. Also, how did they guys sound? Were they into it? And if anyone has a bootleg, please let me know!

In a related response... i dont think the crowd in Toronto went that nuts for Living in Sin (other than us up in the front)... most people simply dont know those songs.

It sucks when they do rare songs and the crowd is kind of like huh? In Toronto '03 they did Damned and most people around me on the floor weren't really that excited. Of course I was freaking out. I know that I for one would bawl my eyes out to hear Diamond Ring and These Days. Especially TD w/ harmonica~ it is in my top 4 favorites but just recently I have been on a Diamond Ring kick.. I think I must have listened to this live version I just found like 10 times last night.

Same thing happened during Wild Is the Wind. I think I might have been the only person in my section freaking out. The guy beside had to ask which album the song was from...and then sat down.

I think its absolutely pathetic that some fans dont know the bands material. If theyr forking out that much for tickets you'd at least expect them to have more than Crossroad and the latest album in their collection.

These Days or Living in Sin or whatever are not 'rare' songs at all, it may be rare in terms of being played live but jesus, are you meaning to tell me that there are large portions of the audeince without the New Jersey or These Days album?! thats a scary thought. New jersey is one of theur biggest selling albums. These Days was a hit single in europe.

Radio Saved my life may be considered a rarity i guess, but no way should the other album tracks. The fans should know the songs!

Once again its the unfortunate situation that we find that a huge portion of BJs audience today is still made up of the 'casual fan' - in the US more than others, and this may be the case why theyr still selling out the bigger venues.

Unfortunately I couldnt agree more... Too bad the musical historys arent switched between US and the rest of the World.. Then we wouldve had more top forties from the second half of their career... All I know is I missed the summer leg of Bounce due to being on a cruise... I thought nothing of it as I had seen them twice that tour already... Then they pulled that acoustic set list and Id DIe for You and THese days...

Point being... Maybe they realize that when they come around an area a third time, theyre getting at least some fans that would pay a third time... will we get as good as the European set lists (at least in our minds)? No. But I missed Die For You and Days once.. it wont happen again... at least I wont run the risk...

Why is that unfortunate? Casual fans are the reasons their albums still go multi-platinum worldwide. For any band, casual fans are the reason the albums sell and, like you said, are the reason they play stadiums and sell out nearly every night.

It'd be nice to have all the casual fans know all the songs, but it's unreasonable to expect.

I don't understand how you can fail to 'know' the songs if you own them on a disc. Unless they don't like them, and skip the track, there's no reason why they shouldn't be pleased to hear these songs. Especially what was said about Damned, it's a fantastic song.

Even if you'd never heard it in your life before, it ought to blow you away. I remember playing it at school once, and believe me it really wasn't cool to play Bon Jovi at school. One "unbeliever" asked who was playing guitar. "Richie Sambora" I told him.

"I never knew he could do that" he said.

I mean bands tour and play songs for the first time and get a reaction. So to sit down when Wild Is The Wind comes on? For God's sake. I don't want to have a seat at any gig! You American's, I don't know.

What is unfortunate?!
I thought my point was obvious. The conseqeucne of the 'casual' fanbase is that they will play the 'hits' that get the best reactions. I for one do not want to hear Bad Mx, Sleep when im dead, Bad name again, but the band know that these go down well for the casual fans out in the crowd who make up a large portion of the fanbase. Im sure Jon is sometimes sick to death of playing bad name etc but there would be people out there who would leave disappointed if it wasnt played.

Why is it unreasonable to expect bon jovi fans to actually be familiar with the band theyr going to see's work?
I *know* that if they started into dry county live this tour, there probaly would be very little reaction to the opening chords from the crowd apart from a few shouts from the diehards maybe. In the U.S, people would probably use it for a toliet break or go to the bar or to buy multiple burgers.

Lol. You usually find that int he fanclub pits everyone has the samne reactions to the rarities which is cool. I did however go see BJ in Glasgow and sat in the stands for the Bounce tour. I found that the only songs they sang along to were prayer, bad name, its my life etc which was abit annoying. The sad truth is though with big stadium shows 70% of the crowd are casual fans :s
