Why does bonjovi.com lie like this?

"Bon Jovi’s phenomenal “Have A Nice Day” world tour, where the band will play for 2.3 million people, started in Des Moines in November ’05. The band has just announced the addition of nine new stadium shows for July, including 2 sold-out performances on July 18 & 19 at Giants Stadium, and a just-announced third show on July 29."

Granted, the 2 shows on July 18th and 19th may, and probably will sell out, but they haven't yet.

For some reason that bothers me. It's like trying to give the band more kudos (right word?) than they've earned.

They've kept doing so for the whole tour. It's all (efficient) marketing.
Both nights in Montreal were said to be sold out weeks before the show but people were still buying tickets 30 minutes before BJ hit the stage.

The same with the sales. It's done better than Bounce but it's certainly not the "career high" they're bragging about.

It's all leading to a successful tour and the first couple of singles have done great (at least in North America) so you can't really blame them.

I think its quite clever realy :)

Surely saying a gig is sold out when it isn't would discourage people from buying tickets, as they would think that they couldn't?

Ah, business makes little sense

A show can be sold out for weeks and you can still get tickets the day of the show. The hold seats for press, VIPs, radio station contest winners, and to accommodate the stage set up. The tickets that aren't used are released a few days before or even the day of the show.

It could discourage for that specific venue, but it's also some great promotion for all the other gigs on the tour, the band and the album.

I guess that can happen, but I didn't see people still buying tickets 30 minutes before U2 or Coldplay.
And it wasn't just a handful of people either at the BJ show, there were three lines...

They lie because they are wankers.

Btw. are they playing to of 2.3 million people on this tour? I doubt that!

Well if there were 50 shows that would probably cover 2.3 million at an average of 40,000-50,000 per show wouldn't it? How many shows are there on the tour in total?

david jevons 04-25-2006 06:58 PM

yes they are and there still selling well

Jovi are not as big as the used to be but are still one of the biggest bands in the world.the new album has sold 3.5 million copies which is more than healthy and went platinum in the us.
Yes they are playing to 2.3 million people proving there as popular as ever when it comes to touring as they can still cut it.this tour is huge 63 arenas and 30 stadiums so far,and it could be even bigger if they do what they should and visit countries where they could easily fill more stadiums. The album went num 1 in Australia and mexico 2 in spain.3 in sweden greece argentina,4 in finland and italy and there not going to these countries which is wrong.Bon jovi.com dont lie i went to see metallica at earls court and both nights were sold out on the net but you could buy a LIMITED number on the door.Stop u winging and enjoy the live shows of one of the best and biggest bands in the world.keep the faith
