alec john such

Does any one know the REAL reason fron alec john such's departures from the band. I have heard many conflicting stories. I heard that he retired from touring, I heard that he was fired cause he wasn't pulling his weight live, I've heard about a cocaine problem, I heard that he got thrown out cause of some interview he gave where he pretty much shit on jon. Does anyone know anything concrete?

If you've seen Behind the Music, Richie made it pretty clear that he and Dave were tired of covering up Alec's mistakes on stage. He said something like, "I felt bad for him, but bad for us too." That's not a direct quote, just a paraphrase.

No one knows anything concrete, only rumours of the things you've mentioned. But this topic has been discussed to death, check the search funtion and you'll find pages and pages.

I think you'll find it was a combination of the interview and mistakes live.

BRING BACK ALEC!

I always find it interesting that he lasted 5 tours before someone complained that he couldn't cut it live. Unless, of course, he started taking drugs during the KTF era which would probably impair (in some cases, drugs actually enhance) his performance. The interview probably sealed it for him. You don't shit on your employer.

Watching some of the old bootlegs, I must say that I prefer Alec more than that robo-bass on stage. His backing vocals are much better too. Bring back Alec and get rid of robo-bass, Banditera and that extra keyboard player.

and i still dont really get why he [apparently] didnt play on the albums, as Hugh claims

Hugh Macdonald's part is to be the background bass player not through choice and not be a true member of the band. The airbrush job on the back of OWN was the best example of his part in the band and I am sure his appearances in album sleeves are few and far between.

Alec John Such was a better performer, but he dropped the ball. When he came out after his firing and said what he said it probably burned some bridges.

i completely agree. mistakes my ass, nobody cares about the bass in Bon Jovi anyway so have a better performer instead and you have a better concert. Hugh is just plain boring.

....How can no one care about mistakes? haha I don't want a guy who will keep ****ing up. There's a giant difference between the playing of the two guys. I know I've stated my case a trillion times over on these boards but I'm a Hugh guy, through and through. His bass lines are killer and memorable. I can't stand Alec's playing style.

Does anyone have a copy of that interview?
