Bon Jovi's attendance figures for Europe
How much do these differ from the venue capacity and the attendance at the gigs??
I know it's common practice o close out sections of an arena or stadium or manipulate the figures somewhat but I just wanted to know if these attendance figures for any of these shows differ from the capacity of the venue. 2 nights at milton keys would be more than 85,000 wouln't it?? Yea, I think the "sellout" or capacity figure is the figure determined by the promoter. MK would hold way more than 85K for two nights. But, those figures are quite impressive.

a sell out doesnt mean every seat in the place is filled.
remember in the satdiums a large portion of seats behind the stage is cut off... the actual determining figure of what is a sell out / maximum people allowed in is the fire / health and safety regulations for the venue and not the band or promoter themselves. |
I know, and I'm using MK as an example of this, I've seen sold out shows in this venue where the figures would be 60k in a single night, surely 2 nights would at least bring in 115-120k wouldn't it??

i dont think those figures are right the city of manchester stadium holds 48,500 - gaining the pitch but loosing the seats behind the stand that would not give them 10,000 extra tickets and all the seats wernt full. Milton keynes has a capacity of 65,000. but the Bon Jovi gigs were licensed to 60,000 also i dont think the croke park figure is right check the photo in the center of the dublin page http://bonjovi.aeglive.com/photos.html and look at all the empty seats |

I've been to many 'sold out' shows to find empty seats scattered around the place, these can often be explained by some companies that get allocated free batches of complimentray tickets and never use them, other unofficial ticketing sources that didnt sell/touts etc etc So, judging for example for Croke park id guess somewhere around 79.000ish would of been there, and MK2 seemed to have more at it than MK1 as the side bits of the hill were more covered on the 2nd night. andi |
There will probably always be empty seats as most of the standing tickets are standing/unreserved seating. I would have thought they can't physically sell too many tickets because what if no one chose to sit in the seats and you ended up with a crush on the pitch. I think you can only sell enough tickets so that it's safe if everyone chose to stand and hope that enough people sit on the seats to make it more comfortable for people who do choose to stand. There are also people who go on these corporate VIP things who aren't really fans and spend half the show in the bar.

Here's the link to billboard. It shows the top 10 concert grosses. Bon Jovi is in 8 of the 10 slots:
