Richies Shoulder

There have been a lot of posts on here about Jon not being well at Hull. I was at Manchester and would like to raise a few points about Richie. He looked rough and hardly changed Guitars all night, He never used a double Kneck one on HAND or Wanted and he didn't really nail a solo all night. Is this the legacy from his broken shoulder and were the couple of guitars he did use lightweight ones I wonder. Ive seen Jovi 13 times and this just wasnt the Richie I know and was a shame.

Also just a quick point why have we gained these 2 extra musicians they don't sound any better for having them do they ????

we're still not sure what happened with Jon at Hull, he has said in an interview that it was not his best performance and I think most of us have accepted that as an apology and the fact he has acknowledged it was not good. My persoanl feelings are exhaustion and the combination of the drugs he was on for hayfever but who really knows.

I was at Glasgow and Hull so both ends of the Uk tour. At Glasogw Richie really didn't seem to be performing at his usual level, but at Hull he performed amazingly, managing all the solos etc. granted he didn't use a double necked guitar but those things are heavy and it probably wouldn't have been a good idea for a recovering shoulder.

I agree with you about the 2 extra musicians tho, can't say the sound was any better with them but then again it is 3 years since i last saw them so if you played both the bounce and the HAND tours back to back maybe i would notice a difference

The two extra musicians are there so they dont have to use backing tapes......which they have been doing on recent tours...

He was AMAZING in Munich.

He didn't use a doubleneck tele on HAND purely because Bobby Bandiera was playing the solo for that track. The song requires a capo at the first fret on the top neck for the verses/chorus, and uses a standard open E tuning for the bottom neck for which Richie usually plays the solo. Since Bandiera played the solo, Richie didn't need a doubleneck for the song.

And the reason there was no doubleneck Taylor acoustic for 'Wanted' was because Richie has a new toy - it's a guitarist's curse that you can never own enough guitars so why play an old one when you've recently gone out and bought a nice shiny new one!?!?

There ya go! ;-)

I'm too tired to read through the thread carefully so I apologize if this has been mentioend but Richie has been using the 12 string acoustic instead of the double neck LONG before the shoulder accident. The double neck tele for HAND did go away though once he busted his shoulder, though.

I'm not quite sure about the backing tapes though. Are they still using one for the chorus of It's My Life?

Is this like Jon's toes ?!

;d

Funny actually, I asked Lumpy (Richie's guitar technician) in MK if Richie was drunk in Coventry. Lumpy's answer was a firm no, he said Richie is on quite strong medication because of the shoulder. I don't know about medication but I'm sure he was drunk (he was drunk on stage for sure at some of the Central European shows).

What's up with Jon's toe? And does that explain those strange shoes he insists on wearing? :P
