i'd stay away from those kits that you can buy. they are a pain in the arse if you haven't got the proper equipment. many years ago my parents buoght me a les paul one and it was nothing but trouble putting it together. routes and holes that weren't correct size, wood wasn't great quality. it ended up being quite an expensive project.

what kits andy????
|
those ones where you can buy the body, neck, hardware, pickups and electrics. all you need to do is spray and put it together. they cost about £200, so buy the time you've bought stuff to prepare the wood and spray it you may aswell have got a les studio or a MIM strat or tele.
oh by the way warmoth do the star inlay necks but they keep adding on fees of you want it routed for a floyd etc. |
if anyone wants any measurements of a sambora mk2 neck let me know. I would try a few luthiers for a price. But before having a neck made i would have to take one to them that i like so they could copy it.

oh btw rs8, wasnt one of the necks a baritone on that guitar? if not it would be cool to have one you could then play hand on it really well.

I'm just gonna get two six-string necks, one with a Floyd Rose setup and the other with a hardtail setup. Then I can use it for songs such as HAND, LYHOM and Wanted (as I don't have a doubleneck acoustic - yet!)
I'd looked at Warmoth and have asked them about custom necks in the past but the only star inlay necks that they (used to) make are either all mother of pearl without the black border, or all black with no white centres. I might push them to see if they could replicate the necks for a higher price but short if that, I may either strip down two sambora MK1s for the parts or approach Fender Custom Shop for a quote. And I have to say, that is an awesome finish you have on that new guitar of yours! Never seen anything like that before come to think of it. |
