i thought you'd be able to help, with your previous busking exploits. i was thinking of some more of the old songs like american pie etc, so if anyone else has suggestion that'd be great

well here's my attempt at the first solo of dry county, it's not great but it's probably as good as it gets for me at the moment.please let me know what you think and also if it works or not cos i was having problems listening to it on putfile.

well i played with my amp last night. my trouble now is that i can hear it coming through the desk but everything is up full and i can only just hear it. don't really wanna have to whack the master volume up cos i live in flats and will just piss people off. looks like i may have to think about getting a different amp. does anyone know if all marshalls are like this i.e. where if you record via the line out it doesn't bypass the cab? or is it just certain models?

Jim Bon Jovi 10-19-2006 05:39 PM

i dunno mate.

as i said, my avt 275 can be quiet or haved sound coming out of the combo when recording direct.

does the mg have just the master volume or does it have independent volumes for the different channels plus a master volume?

if you have independents and a master you can record silently yet have the thing "cranked" going into the desk...

i cant remember off the top of my head but im thinking the mg series were just 2 channel amps with the one volume?

andy_ash 10-19-2006 06:30 PM

it's got a volume for the distorted channel, but not the clean channel and a master volume. i've tried with the master volume down and the dirty channel up and that's when i can get some sound but hardly audible.

Jim Bon Jovi 10-19-2006 06:50 PM

you might just have to crank the amp then.

on the other hand you should do what i done and move next to a deaf old woman :-D

That would be ideal. might see about doing a trade for one of the new marshalls. they have the dedicated headphone output aswell for silent practice which would really be handy.

Thought i'd get this thread back on the first page with a question. How do you go about constructing solo's? i'm doing some recording at the moment and all my solo's seem to sound the same. so i was just wondering what different techniques you all use when it comes to showing off?

Jim Bon Jovi 10-25-2006 08:50 PM

very cool brian may video on youtube having fun with delay effects.

as for compossing solo's...

i never wrote any solo's for the band as my bro played lead, i was more bothered about riffs, hooks and fills so i cant really comment but when solo-ing or improving over songs i usually just work around the chords and scales.
