please don't ruin this thread by bitching about each other. we all contribute to this thread because we all love playing guitar. so what if we are all at different levels? the people that can just pretty much play a basic bon jovi solo ( i include myself in that catergory) are just as welcome as the guys that can play flashy solo's. i would guess that 99% of us are here cos they wanna learn from other people and what advice they have to give. no one is ever gonna beter themselves if they don't take on advice. just for example, if i posted the first BOR or NSG solo's along side the 2nd attempts that i did after reading your guys comments then you would see a massive improvement.
Gaz, i couldn't give a monkey's whether you can sing like jon in the early days or some reject from the X-factor, as long as you are contributing to thread it's fine by me. i can't sing for shit so i haven't a leg to stand on if i criticize people. i'm sorry to say gaz, but being the lead singer means all the attention and pressure falls on you. you get all the credit if the show goes well so you gotta be able to take the crtiticism aswell, it just comes with the territory.

right, now that's out of the way anybody any thoughts on what our next challenge could be?

Jim Bon Jovi 09-27-2006 02:53 PM

point taken andy. i was having a go at gaz cos he's always quick off the mark to pretty much humiliate people posting clips on other threads. im done with it.

for the next challenge i think we should do a different approach. something like a verse and chorus of it's hard letting you go or ill be there for you or something.

not necesarilly limited to finger picking arpeggio'd pieces but something a little different to solo's where we can only do a littl evariation because we're reigned in by the original solo

personally i'd love to hear everyone's take on the answer from stranger.

gazthomas 09-27-2006 03:33 PM

**** it

next solo dry county you have 1 month why its pretty lengthy ok?

happy jim?

sstefazy 09-27-2006 06:28 PM

Hey, totally agree with andy, irrelevant of what has been said b4, this thread is bout guitar playin, i will make a post of something a wee bit different later if i can find it, i recorded it years ago. I like the idea of somethin a bit different, but how's bout incorporating the solo as well, ie verse, chorus, solo . lettin u go cud be a good one, personally i love as my guitar, got a class build up and a cracking riff b4 the solo. only a thought though.

Jim Bon Jovi 09-27-2006 06:34 PM

ill put in if that's what it takes too.

the verse has a great guitar part

the chorus has those brilliant big power chords and the octave power chords hook

and the solo is different to the other solo's you guys have done so far.

Jim Bon Jovi 09-27-2006 06:44 PM

you could actually take almost anything off these days if we're going for something that covers alot of styles and techniques.

the only ones i wouldn't pick from it are all i want is everything and damned and that's because i don't really like them not because there's anything necesarilly wrong with the guitar parts.

wanted dead or alive is a decent example too. you've got the intro run down the board, the rythmn playing during the verses and chorus then the solo....

sstefazy 09-27-2006 07:16 PM

All sounding good so far, i'm up 4 some these days all right! :)

andy_ash 09-27-2006 07:21 PM

oooh blimey, i can't play much from these days so this will be a challenge.

These days it's self has a nice verse, bridge and solo, can't play the solo but i'll have a crack. also my guitar... i just love everything about the guitar work in that song.

wanted wouldn't be a problem either.

sstefazy 09-27-2006 07:23 PM

Ok, lets vote from:

1. Wanted dead or alive
2. These days
3. As my guitar...
4. Hard lettin you go
5. If that's what it takes
6. Hey God

For me it has to as my guitar

andy_ash 09-27-2006 07:29 PM

I wouldn't go for hey god, the solo's horrible.

i say wanted, just somehting simple to get in the swing of things ( also so i can get some practice in on the others :) ).

sstefazy 09-27-2006 07:48 PM

Actually , wanted cud be an option too, my cuz is learning it 4 a gig so i wouldn't mind getting it up 2 speed ! :)

andy_ash 09-27-2006 08:27 PM

Just found out some info on richie's floyd rose guitar (the first white one he started using a few years back). some of you may have already known this but i thought i'd put it up anyway.

apparently floyd had approached the owners of jackson/charvel with the speedloader bridge years ago and basically they didn't wanna know so he made a couple of prototypes with the brige fitted and took them to the 2003 NAMM show.

Richie or one of his guys saw them and took one of prototypes off of floyd's hands.
so they're you go, richie as usual always leading the way in unusual guitar designs.

and dry county

sstefazy 09-27-2006 10:19 PM

Ok dry county is also an option, but does require a lot of work + time, mb have dc for those that can but have one of the others 4 those of us that may not have time / ability. It's a huge solo to learn , never mind get perfect! But def worth a stab 4 those up 4 it! Give me a week or so.......

youd need alot longer than that took me a few months but i had help

sstefazy 09-27-2006 10:34 PM

A week to get a reasonable attempt, i learnt it ages ago to a pretty ok standard, i'll see how it goes, got limited time now ....... :(

gazthomas 09-27-2006 10:39 PM

ok then but if its hey god were playin im out i hate that song

Jim Bon Jovi 09-27-2006 10:41 PM

i won't be trying dry county cause ive just started back uni and have never even looked at a tab of it so ive not got the time (or patience) to learn it but im ok enough with swotting up on any of the others and laying them down.

sstefazy 09-27-2006 10:42 PM

Lets go either wanted or as my guitar

well i ddnt know we were doin 'somethin different'

just might **** this thread off now its doin me head in

Jim Bon Jovi 09-28-2006 01:48 AM

i got bored so i laid down a couple of one take tracks for if thats what it takes.

got one guitar semi clean doing the verse and rythmn on the chorus and a dirtier one doing the riffs and power chords in the chorus and the solo.

its actually turned out not bad considering i never used a click or really put much effort into tweakign the guitars or anything. say what you will about digital gear but being able to go: lead from guitar into amp, lead from amp into mixer, hit record, play is a brilliant thing imo.

i'll try and post it. i'm not bothered enough to do any more work on it since it's not in the competition but i might go for the full shabbang and lay down drums and bass tomorrow depending on how i feel.

have we decided on what the actual tune we're doing next is? wanted is good by me if you're all up for that. i'd rather that than yglabn or any of the more shreddy stuff.

Jim Bon Jovi 09-28-2006 03:06 AM

k i think im goin to try and put some drums and bass down on this cos the more i play it back the less the little niggly things annoy me.

if i can manage to get the drums down decently (which is a big if considering theres no click to work off and im recording backwards) i'll definetely work out how to let you guys hear it.

andy_ash 09-28-2006 02:45 PM

i'll have a bash at DC, i might need a couple of weeks but i'll put something up. in the meantime i'll post my version of wanted, just to keep my contributions coming.

sstefazy 09-28-2006 03:35 PM

Yup,wanted it is by the looks of it, alongside dc

gazthomas 09-28-2006 09:21 PM

ok wanted for the meantime but DC is ongoing 'behind the scences' until everyone is comfortable with it

sstefazy 09-28-2006 09:23 PM

Yup, we've gotta lot of guitar playin to do! :)

sstefazy 09-28-2006 09:29 PM

no probs m8, look forward to hearing ur playin when ur bk up and running!

Jim Bon Jovi 09-29-2006 10:44 AM

is anyone playing wanted along to backing tracks or just doing it on its own?

im probably going to do a full recording of a verse chorus and solo with drums and all that on sunday so if anyone needed backing tracks i could put up one version with the lead guitar and another without it that you guys could use.

sstefazy 09-29-2006 05:11 PM

I'll prob stick up a version without, and then once i get it nailed, i do it with the backing track.

andy_ash 10-01-2006 11:52 AM

i'll be using backing track, hopefully have it posted soon. i had a look at DC last night, doesn't look that hard to be honest. i'm on holiday next week so hopefully i won't forget it and be able to post it sometime in the following week.

andy_ash 10-04-2006 08:01 PM

it's gone very quiet in here, no body gonna post their attempt at wanted? hopefully i'll have mine up later tonight.

sstefazy 10-04-2006 09:48 PM

Yeah, haven't had a chance to even play guitar 4 bout a week nevermind attempt recording solos, might have a pop in the next few days all being well!

gazthomas 10-05-2006 12:13 AM

http://media.putfile.com/wanted-V-quick-

for your ears only very quik cos im goin out lol

andy_ash 10-05-2006 02:21 PM

right, i will have mine up tonight. I have recorded the acoustic part and i'll record the solo tonight. i've come to 2 conclusions whilst recording this, 1.I am incredibly rusty at playing wanted and 2. i ****in hate playing 12 string guitars.
