I cannot believe it... the England qualifying game tomorrow is not on tv, only on sky sports...... its a qualifier, how dare they .... now I have to try and fit in the tiny country pub or listen to it on radio 5 ... but its just not the same...

I think we'll win to be honest. There have been poor performances in the recent past but I think that Steve McLaren's forced changes might break the single-minded approach they've had towards player selection.

As for it not being on TV, it's really crappy! Sky seems to be acquiring the rights for just about everything and it stinks. There's no decent TV left for your £130 a year TV licence anymore!!

I think it has a lot more to do with the players than the coach - for instance, Israel are currently playing with all eleven players sitting either on the edge of or in their 18 yard box.

No coaching changes could possibly give England any more of a chance of breaking through such a boring, stalemate defence whereas having quality players would!

Dawn 03-24-2007 10:13 PM

this game is a load of rubbish !!!!!!!!

RS8MB0R8 03-24-2007 10:28 PM

And it's the players that put on the performance.... or not!

CRAP! CRAP! CRAP!

How can such a talented bunch of players play so appallingly?

i always hate the way england blame the coach for anything that goes wrong! its the players that have to preform, and as usual with england they failed too

RS8MB0R8 03-25-2007 12:05 AM

They play for their country though, not the coach. ;)

their country doesnt tell them how to play, the coach does. The players are talented , they have no spark left and they are not positioned correctly. Everytime u hit it in the box there are usually only 2 players there, its not enough, never has been , we dont attack it makes us look like we have no balls.

ok i didnt watch the match (due to being at work, which i'm glad i was) i've just read the line up for the match.... a team of good players (in their own right) but when they come together as one they dont seem to gel, fair enough you've got a few club team mates playing together at international level, how many times has this side been fielded?! not once. they've trained and been together a few days, some people may not have played together ever... its not steve mclarens fault of the people on the pitch.... he picked the players he thought could win. its just a shame these players havent gelled together......

and before anyone comments i know nothing, well lets put it this way, i've been to euro qualifiers before and i've been to quite a few matches at anfield, white hart lane, fratton park and wembley, so even though i didnt watch the match i know where i'm coming from!

UKjovi 03-25-2007 01:08 PM

Do we stand any chance now???

RS8MB0R8 03-25-2007 08:51 PM

There's no players in the box when crosses come in because they're lazy. Most play in the Premiership which has been touted the most difficult league in the world but only because it's full of the best exciting foreign players - if it was just English players, it'd be one of the worst leagues in the world. It's the money that's the drawa to foreign players and thus it's the money that keeps the Premiership top-class.

You can count the number of one-touch passes between England players on one hand in almost any game you look at in recent times. Nobody works for each other and nobody puts in 100%. They probably just think, "Hey, we're England - we're 'supposed' to be good," and then expect to win games on that basis alone.

The whole team needs a boot up the arse but unfortunately, because the media always have the coach in their sights, the players know that they'd have to f**k up really badly for any of the attention to fall directly on them as individuals. Even the aftermath of Robinson's fluffed clearance and calamitous goal conceded against Croatia fell most heavily on McClaren. Why?

As much as he underperformed, at least Beckham actually 'worked' for the team. Gerrard and Hargreaves do too but too many players don't, eg. Lampard, Rooney and they either need to pull their fingers out or be dropped. Although, who in the English game is good enough to replace them?

I agree they cant play as a team but I do put that down to the manager. I dont rate Mclaren as a manager at all, he has his favourites like P Neville who should have been out the team a long time ago. Why take Lennon off on Saturday when he was the only person who looked like creating anything?? At least if we dont qualify for Euro 08 he will get sacked.

RS8MB0R8 03-26-2007 04:09 PM

If I had the choice of seeing England qualify for Euro 2008 or McClaren getting the boot, I think I'd choose the first option.

I reckon we will qualify , andora is such a poor team any of our 2nd division teams would be able to beat them..... but qualifying like this doesnt mean much and wont lift the team or get the management changed.

I read today below.....more disrespect....

England manager Steve McClaren and star striker Wayne Rooney were involved in a dressing-room row after the goalless draw against Israel, according to reports.

The Manchester United forward is said to have walked out of the dressing room after being singled out for criticism by McClaren, whose team have now failed to score in four of their last five matches.

Rooney has failed to score a competitive goal for England since Euro 2004 and McClaren is reported to have told the 21-year-old star that he has not played well for his country for three years.

Rooney reportedly responded by throwing his boots and kit at the wall in frustration and it is reported the argument was so loud it could be heard in the Israel dressing room next door.

The former Everton forward endured a frustrating evening, failing to really get into the game and being shown a yellow card after a spat with Bolton defender Tal Ben Haim.

McClaren, who knows anything other than victory over Group E whipping boys Andorra in Barcelona on Wednesday will bring calls for his immediate dismissal, retains enough faith in his players to feel confident he will lead them to Austria and Switzerland next summer.

"We have to believe in ourselves. The ultimate goal is qualification. How we get there doesn't matter," he said.

"There is still a hell of a long way to go. If we had not got in the box, created chances or had shots, then I would be worried. We know we should have won on Saturday but all we can do is get on with the job.''

Cuchulainn 03-26-2007 05:16 PM

england thinks they got it bad! look who we have for a manager! steve stanton! man hasnt a clue! but im hoping he comes around to his senses, got a win on saturday against wales, and if we can get another on wedensday we can set ourselfs up for a chance at euro 2008

TheseDays2005 03-27-2007 12:07 AM

England already had a good team, last few years they really have incredible players - could be THE team of this age next to Brazil.
Somehow it just don't fit, won't get to a real team. Same problem as Holland really always had, no matter wich players you kick out (Beckham, V Bommel) it will still be the same. It's in the personality of the English & the Dutch....

and the opposite of the German...

and i thought u knew a little about football.

lampard,gerrard,terry,rooney,owen,beckham

2 play in the same position and seem never to produced for thier country, owen is always injured and even when he plays he needs to be in form, beckham was always over-rated imo.

rooney has a lot of talent and could become a world class player if he learns to stop being a twat, and terry is a good defender but england will always be a quater-final team, its only there media that build them up higher, after all they have meant to be one of the favorites for every world cup since 1966

not 1998....they played in Romania's group that year :D. We were seated and England were drawn into our group...those were the days. We also beat them 3:2 ...Dan Petrescu scoring in the last minute. Ah...how I miss those days. Mutu's generation has a good chance now. They have to qualify damn it!

RS8MB0R8 03-28-2007 07:32 PM

Hehe! This from the BBC website:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lampard ruled out of Andorra game

England midfielder Frank Lampard has been ruled out of the Euro 2008 qualifier against Andorra on Wednesday due to a cracked bone in his wrist.

The 28-year-old suffered the injury during training on Monday when he was struck by a Wayne Rooney shot.

But the injury is worse than was first thought and Lampard will not feature at Espanyol's Olympic Stadium.

Stewart Downing is expected to step in to the midfield on the left, with Aaron Lennon playing wide on the right.

Ashley Cole is back from suspension and will replace Jamie Carragher at left-back, while Micah Richards is set to step in at right-back in place of Phil Neville.

Meanwhile, England boss Steve McClaren has launched an impassioned defence of his players' attitude, saying they do care about playing for the national side.

The squad have been criticised for a lack of passion after recent below-par displays.

But McClaren said: "They care. They're passionate about playing for England.

"It hurts them when they lose. It's 10 times harder playing for your country than it is for your club."

Saturday's 0-0 draw with Israel leaves England three points behind second-placed Russia and five adrift of Group E leaders Croatia - and in danger of not qualifying for Euro 2008.

McClaren added: "There's no problem with their attitude.

"They want to win. They failed on Saturday because they didn't score a goal, end of story."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe somebody paid Rooney to force McClaren's hand and drop Lampard? Saying that though, Rooney's performances have left a lot to be desired too.

Now we get to see how England play without the overrated, uninspired, Chelsea midfielder!!!

Dawn 03-28-2007 11:16 PM

well its not going very well !!!!!!!!! The crowd is shouting there is only one Beckham !!!!!!! the booing is awful.... oops another yellow card for Rooney !!

RS8MB0R8 03-29-2007 12:07 AM

Nugent should start ahead of Rooney anyways! He isn't stuck in the super-hero mould mentality and actually works hard.

Mongoose 03-29-2007 12:29 AM

Heh, Nugent stole a goal from a yid! Legend!

Malachy 03-29-2007 12:49 AM

awwwww what a night to be from ireland, great win for the republic and a fantastic one for the north! (yes i support both)

Neurotica80 03-29-2007 12:51 AM

Just goes to show Gerrard needs to be playing Centre Mid without Lampard getting in his way!!!

Cant say that performance filled me with confidence though

RS8MB0R8 03-29-2007 01:19 AM

Nugent and Defoe should both start.

Drop Downing, switch Lennon on to the left and bring back Beckham.

Drop Lampard and keep Hargreaves and Gerrard in the centre.

The back four are alright but didn't exactly get tested tonight so you can't really see how well they work together.

What was said at half-time to spur the players into action is what I want to know. Whatever it was should have been said after the Israel game but for some reason the same team that got booed off the pitch on Saturday turned up for the first half of this game too!?!?!

Good choices....

they need to get some balls and just go for it. Lennon and Johnson showed some spark.

Rooney is really getting on my nerves, the team have enough problems without his temper tantrums every 5 mins, he knows people are going to have a go at him as he is easy pickings, he needs to find God or go to angry management classes... he obviously cant work under pressure.

the managers example from the press conference doesnt help.... he never has any respect for anyone , including past and present england players, this shows from the comments he has made , the fans dont like. I think if Maclaren gets Beckham back this will be a start. Dawn

Manager storms out. aol news....

England manager Steve McClaren stormed out of his post-match press conference after Wednesday's 3-0 win over Andorra.

McClaren has been under siege from the media all week and was then forced to sit through sustained calls for his head throughout the game as England eventually ran out comfortable victors in Barcelona.

Clearly irked at the treatment he has been receiving, McClaren civilly answered just two questions before his voice began to crack and he got to his feet declaring: "Gentlemen, if you want to write whatever you want to write, you can write it because that is all I am going to say. Thank you."

Reflecting on the win, McClaren said: "I said at half-time, this is when we have to stick together, this is when we have to step forward and show real guts and character. The players did that. I am proud of them. Probably a few of them have grown up.

"Nothing concerns me about what people write or say. What matters is what is on the inside. I have had fantastic support this week from the players and the staff; from everyone within the squad and also outside it. There is a great determination to prove people wrong."

Although the eventual margin of victory, achieved thanks to a Steven Gerrard double and a late tap-in from debutant David Nugent, was acceptable in terms of pre-match expectation, it was the reaction of the England fans which really grabbed the attention.

The vast majority of the thousands of supporters who had flown in for the game joined in anti-McClaren chants.

Malachy 03-29-2007 08:29 PM

i say fair play to him, bout time the english press got there heads out of the england teams ass to see that they really anrt as good as the love to believe

Mr Bluesman 03-29-2007 08:51 PM

The first half of England's game yesterday was nothing short of shit. Not that I think all the booing and negative chants are helping anyone but you can understand why the fans were unhappy at half time.

Nice to see an England team without Lampard. He's such a useless, uninspiring, and over rated player. How on earth can he start in centre midfield ahead of Gerrard, who I see as being the best in the world in his position? I totally agree with RS8MB0R8's line up choice. Andy Johnson is crap, it's the harsh truth. Rooney has yet to really impress me at the international stage. I'd like to see Defoe and Nugent starting up front, a couple of players who seem to value the England shirt. I don't know, this might spur Rooney on to try and work a bit harder. We also need David Beckham back.

Oh, and just get rid of McClaren.

UKjovi 04-01-2007 01:33 PM

Is it worth Arsenal turning up to any more games this year?

RS8MB0R8 04-02-2007 02:50 PM

Hey, you got one goal - albeit scored by a defender.... who you bought from Chelsea!
