I still can't believe how good this performance is - and I first saw it around 2013, having watched it at least 40-50 times since then. I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.

Good times...

One of the highlights of my Bon Jovi fandom was following the Sydney pbp, seeing that STBI got played and then watching the video of Jon absolutely nailing it! These Days and Happy Now also had incredible performances that night! As a fan you knew that Jon was no longer in his prime, but still very capable to turn on the switch and give us something great.

When people think I constantly bitch about Jon's voice, this is the reason. He was able to do THIS so recently and then went to struggling in Who Says almost overnight. The way he fell of a cliff in 2011-2014 is still mindblowing. I'm a massive music geek and I have never seen anything like that before or since.

I agree with your points overall. But I honestly think that Jon was in his post-2k prime there - even on the OWN tour he struggled way more on STBI than he did in Sydney. Just listen to him struggle his way through the song in Tokyo 2001:

https://youtu.be/-4O3sBCbeVY

That must have been one of the first occasions in concert where Jon honestly sounded bad. His voice was shot to pieces during the song. Actually, what he was doing there was not singing - it was shouting/screaming. Seems like there's something vaguely familiar about that statement...

On the other hand, 2011 got rather choppy performances of the song in general as well (miles better than that Tokyo one, though), but I still like the Vancouver version a lot:

Jon turning around to cough after holding (and nailing, may I add) that last long note is priceless.

Man, the Circle/GH tour had so many great moments... for example, one of my favorite Prayer performances of all time was given in Hyde Park '11:

Compare that to the Sao Paulo '17 version:

While Jon was already struggling a bit on Prayer back in '11, it was nowhere close to the sheer horridness of recent renditions. Okay, he somehow managed to nail those "Whoa-oh-oh-ooh..." parts in Sao Paulo, but apart from those, the whole song was an inconsistent shoutfest there (as always, basically), even though Jon surprisingly was moving around like he did back in the day.

The three Sydney shows in 2010 were the pinnacle of the Circle Tour, brilliant beyond comparison. To this day, I can't for the life of me understand why they didn't make a DVD/Bluray of those three nights.

For me the Sydney shows were not only the peak of the 2010/11 tour, but also among their five best shows of the post-2000 era.
I also remember the pbp of the third night, due to the time differences it was a Saturday morning over here in Germany and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw what was getting played. Furthermore, I think Jon's confidence after nailing STBI was what lead to the best and most aggressive Happy Now rendition these guys have put on. The songs were played back to back and they were still on a high.
I remember listening to the bootlegs over and over again. What people may not realize, since night 3 looked that good on paper, was that night 2 actually even had a better overall performance. It was just stunning!

For me, night 3 was miles better than night 2 in every way. At times Jon even sounded like he did back in the 90's during night 3, with the rasp, high notes and everything. And yes, the setlist (main set included) was simply epic and quite possibly the best Jon has written since 1996.

Night 2 was great mainly because of the epic acoustic mini-set in the middle of the show, but the song choices for the encore were pretty dull (save for Love's The Only Rule) and Jon's voice was a bit shot towards the end of the show - something that didn't happen on night 3, even though the set as a whole was much harder to sing than anything they had performed on the previous night.

By the way, back on the Circle/GH tour these guys could make even a more vanilla (setlist-wise) show the best f***ing thing on Earth whenever they - or Jon, to be exact - were in the right mood. For example, I've rarely been as enthusiastic watching a post-2k BJ concert as I was when I saw this show for the first time:

Real surprises are nowhere to be found in that set, but at least it has a great flow and features many of my live favorites. Besides that, the band is on absolute fire, Jon sounds great (again, with lots of rasp and aggression) and is full of energy, the crowd is surprisingly good for an American one and the quality of the video is incredible. What could be better than all those things combined?
