Here's IBTFY, from the same PBS Soundstage broadcast. It's definitely more "Richie" than "RSO". I think the only time I really noticed Ori over other backing vocals was "there to make you happy"; and even then, she sounded a little hesitant about it.

Also, a friend sent me this link to a very cool string trio cover of LOAP. I thought some of you might enjoy it, too.

I feel like they really got their shit together and rehearsed like hell for the Soundstage show. I wish all of their shows had been that tight. I feel like they were just finally starting to get that fact that they needed to be a tighter band when it was all over....

Meh. Although this sounds better than most performances it's still bland. The band sounds like one of those generic talent show backup bands and whenever Orianthi's singing along they sound like a K-pop couple.

Seeing this makes me think they'd already broken up in 2017 but tried to keep things going because they'd invested quite a bit of money in the project. It's a bit awkward to see Richie boss her around on stage and her not paying attention to him.

Salaam Aleikum,

The problem is that you are used to hearing Tico, Dave and Hugh on these tracks that you are always going to be comparing them to that, and it's never going to match up to those guys, in the same way they we compare Phil X to Richie - it will never be as good, because it's not those guys! Stefanie Eulinberg is no slouch on the drums...she's just not Tico!

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. They were already committed to the album release at this point, so they had to see through the promo for it etc.

I can see what you mean but I disagree. I liked his backing band in 1998 and thought they did I'll Be There For You justice. I think these guys don't. Individually I believe they're great musicians but as a whole Richie's bands just don't work ever since he's gone solo for good.

I agree. I remember watching those TV performances of Hard Times Come Easy (e.g. ) and just being very impressed with how tight those bands are. It's not like I can point out if they're playing something specifically wrong, but it just doesn't sound like a unit - maybe it's due to lack or rehearsals, since the RSO band went through many different lineups.

This was a problem through the whole RSO project....band members constantly coming and going and not enough rehearsal. That's what I was saying by my comment on the Soundstage footage....it sounded like that they had done a lot more rehearsal for this than any of the previous footage I've seen and heard...it was just nowhere near as sloppy. The reason I compared it to hearing the song with Dave/Tico/etc is because I don't think you really notice it on the other songs (ie the non BJ songs). Personally I think the band sounded great on the "What Have We Done" song that Jackie posted.

pretty cool performance, but.... why autotune?
He not need to do that, still have a voice, I don't care about small mistakes, is more natural.

"What Have We Done" is one of the songs from RSO's PBS Soundstage performance in October 2017. I have no earthly idea why it wasn't released on their album; because I think it's one of their best, if not THE best song they did together. But as far as I know, this is the only time it was even performed. Enjoy!

First I have heard this, a really good tune
