Due to the other thread about the live music, I went and listened Yokahoma 2003. His voice was really good during that performance and those times. People say his voice was off during the Bounce tour but I beg to differ. He was hitting all the right notes during Always which would sound like a cat in heat today. The only thing worse is STBI 2011

Yokohama was earlier in the tour. Jon's voice was pretty good at the beginning of the tour, but as the tour rolled on, his voice got progressively worse. By the time the tour was done, his voice was shot.

Just as a wise ass is comenting on my Always video:

Was this performance for TOTP from the Niagara Falls playback?
It looks so to me, even then you would have seen Jon working harder if he actually had to hit the notes live than he did there...

Just like most of Always promo performances back in '94, the band was playback while Jon was singing live.

I know this scratching VERY MUCH at the borderline of fitting into here.
But maybe some of you were Alf fans as I was and I just saw this video again after a long time:

I know most of the people he imitates in there...Springsteen, Van Halen, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, ZZ Top.
And now I read he does Tico Torres on the drums? What do you think?
Especially as he is once a drummer with a white shirt and once one with a dark vest and earrings...
And who's the sax player supposed to be?

Haja 07-08-2011 12:07 AM

Alright. Anyone else find it interesting how this particular song has over 1,5 million views?

As for the song..LOVE IT! :)
Some cool guitaring there and a great melody..even if the lyrics are a bit on the cheesy side.

Probably people thought it was a declaration of love to Jon with some photos and a song they knew.
That's how I see a retarded girl youtubing a BJ video.. "Bon Jovi I want you"

I enjoy reading the comments. Someone Said, how many bands from the 90's are still around?

Jon would love that one. He hates the 80's curse

Would love to hear this acoustically. (I know the one time Jon did it wasn't in full). The studio version is a bit too gooey.

it is an excellent song, especially when confronted by it for the first time in ages. you can see how many many people could just fall in love with the band having heard the first 90 seconds

These Days from Wembley 95. I see why they left it off the DVD, very flat and boring performance, especially in a sea of great performances from 1995.

Where is the performance from? If I'm not mistaken, it's from the Hey God single, and that says it's from Johannesburg 95. But is the one from Johannesburg, and while the two performances are similar, they are quite different. Was the performance from the single really overdubbed? But would they even do that considering that it's a b-side?

There were 2 shows in Johannesberg and 1 in Durban, back in 1995. :)

Wow, I'm shocked. This sounds like a soundcheck and not a good one. I've never heard Jon's voice so shot in 90s performances even if it was DA era, it was still miles better than this. And what's with all messed up lyrics? It's not like it was performed for the first time or anything like that.

Captmorgs 07-10-2011 07:10 PM

Jon has said that it just isn't the same and not truly "the band" without any one of the four of them. To some extent, I think the others' talents get overshadowed by Jon's mega-rockstardom, although Richie is also immensely popular and obviously has his devotees. The case for David:

That version I posted is probably my favorite version of These Days. I love it so much.

Check this out. The very first performance of Livin' on a Prayer, from Bradford 1986.

That was the first time they played it and now theyve been playing it for 25 years, of course it sounds better now. Btw this was before the days of the internet when you (not you personally) didnt get to nit pick over setlists and "ooh he missed a note". You just got excited over seeing an act not knowing what they were going to play.

gomora 07-11-2011 11:51 PM

It's not that bad to me. I don't think LOAP sounds better now. It's completely beaten to the ground, done to death and lost all purpose as far as I'm concerned. It's a total, ugh lets get this over with and for years it has come across as such. At least this sounds less bored.
There ARE some songs that sound better now than before; not many of those are from the mid 80s since they don't play them.

TwinFan 07-12-2011 12:19 AM

Prayer sounds better now than it did there, but it sounded best (IMO) between 1993 and 2001.

Haja 07-12-2011 12:28 AM

The keyboard sounds so off.

I fail to see your point. Since almost everything went downhill from there I can't see this reasoning applying to more than a few songs from the SWW record when Jon's voice was shot.

I think his point is that it's the first time they did it, of course there's gonna be a few kinks to work out. After 25 years, they've got it down pat. They could play Prayer in their sleep if they wanted to.

Just look how much it improved after 2 years.

Yeah but I still disagree he said that they've been playing it for 25 years so now should be the best version. If you tell me the VERY first time they play it and compare it to the following ones in the same tour I do agree. But I happen to like almost every song live from the same tour as the record best. Blood on Blood, KTF, ITA, TD.. The list is very long. Very rare cases I prefer a live version from another tour, probably because of things that were added like LYHOM for instance.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from now. I'm different, I don't like the 80's live stuff that much. I prefer most of the live stuff from the 90's or early 2000's. I do like all my These Days live stuff from the 95/96 tours, same with Crush. But all the stuff from Slippery, New Jersey, and Faith I prefer on the Faith, These Days, and Crush/OWN tours.

I didnt say now is the best version, I said it will sound better now as they have had plenty of practise. This is why I made my comments about the internet as well because it makes everyone a critic as they can go on YT and decide how bad something sounds through a home speaker over someone who actually went to some of these shows.(a la moi)
