not strictly bon jovi, but felt id post it as it shows that bobby can play guitar in the right band and has got one hell of a voice on him. The vid is southside johnny by the way. |

Nice blues guitar playing by Bobby... I can't believe it :) |

Bobby's a good musician, but his place in Bon Jovi is as a rhythm guitarist. And it should stay as that.

Is it possible for you to be positive, Seb? I don't think anybody was saying he was brilliant or as good as Richie, but what was in that video was pretty good.

Working Too Hard is a song you can go absolutely berserk on, it's got the most standard blues and rock & roll scales and yet all he comes up with are a few D and E chords played over the neck multiple times, either strumming or picking, as in the most standard rock & roll solo-ing but done in a quite average way. There's no tension or feel in his solo's, it's just going through the motions. Listen to him play Treat Her Right or Twist & Shout and you'll hear him do the same stuff. It's just average and it might sound great to an average or non guitar player but it sounds uninspired to me, and even when he does play a small lick to finish a solo it's quite often the same one. It's exactly that reason why he can't play Bon Jovi solo's, or any guitar solo's at all, and repeating yourself is exactly why fans call Richie lazy nowadays. Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |

I maintain, Bobby was aked to join Bon Jovi as a live musician mainly because Jon realized that their vocal sound needed reinforcement (rightly so) and he is given the odd guitar solo out of gratitude and to justify his presence on stage. His guitar skills are a nice add-on and can enrich the sound here and there. |

I dont get why Bobby is even in the band anyway. Good singer/bad singer, good guitarist/bad guitarist. Bon Jovi did pretty well without him for donkeys years.
|
Have to agree with Seb, good voice, bad guitarist. Having said that, I do think he should play live with Bon Jovi, his voice adds weight to the vocals and his guitar the same (for instance, Blaze of Glory live with his added electric sounds much better). Just don't give him a solo, for god's sake.
and that Workin' Too Hard video is the first time I've ever seen him use a nice guitar, they're usually shite. |

Bobby is a long time friend of Jons. They've played the Jersey scene way before DA was released. I'm not sure why Bobby & Jeff Kazee started playing with Bon Jovi on the HAND tour. If I was to take a guess and give the choice of two, I'd say…… 1 The HAND tour was the start of the Country thing and they brought in these guys for Who Says. Jon saw the vision of LH and needed these guys for that project. Or 2. HAND was so overproduce, with so many tracks, they needed extra musicians to fill in the vocals, guitars, and whatever additional sounds. Or maybe even a combination of the 2. I think after that, Jon liked what he heard, needed Bobby for LH, and gave him a job. They are good friends. I think Jon's doing a favor for Bobby and Bobby's doing a favor to Jon. |
