I usually hate playbacked performances with live vocals. They seem so fake. However, it's an exception with Bon Jovi. Since they love downtuning EVERYTHING they play (The only exceptions I can think of right now are Not Running Anymore and, surprisingly, Let It Rock in 2010), they've been doing so for the last 20 years, so it's refreshing to see when due to playback Jon is forced to sing a song in original key. I liked when he had to do in some shows in the 2009 promo tour when playing Born To Follow and Superman.

What do you mean? Both of those songs are tuned half a step down.

I mean during some promo appearances in 2009, Jon had to sing live on top of playback instruments. Therefore, he was forced to sing it in original key. A couple of examples:

I respect Jon for singing live even when some TV shows are forcing the band to be on playback, at least he sticks with live vocals. However, there was an exception when promoting HAND. There are lots of performances when he's lypsynching HAND (the song), so I guess he was never able to pull it off live even when it was new. Even the 2004 demo, which was premiered a year before the song's release in the AMA awards was downtuned. If I'm wrong, could anyone support me with a YouTube link from a TV show where the band is miming HAND, but Jon is singing live?

I sorta see what you're saying. The part earlier just threw me off. Both Not Running Anymore and Let in Rock in 2010 were downtuned half a step.

The demo/unreleased early version of the song was in standard, and live was half a step down. I'm sure you're right though, any time the band is miming and the song is live Jon would have to sing it in standard. Does anyone know if they lower the key beforehand? I guess I could look myself...

Forgot just how good this concert and short tour was back in '97

You can see the genuine fun and passion with Jon and his band (even Bobby plays well here!), and the maturity in the song writing on the Destination Anywhere songs compared to some recent efforts.
I guess this was inspired by the other thread on here about people tiring of the band, as well as the appreciation for what Richie has been up to of late. I truly believe a break from Bon Jovi and some more solo stuff, and touring in smaller theatres would reignite the fire which many fans think is missing. I know I would much rather watch Jon singing some of his DA stuff and his new movie stuff on a tour (it is more suited to his voice nowadays afterall), or Richie singing Aftermath stuff than watch yet another autopilot band version of Bad Name, BTBMB or Bad Medicine.

That was back at the pinnacle of Jon's perceived coolness in The UK (and maybe Ireland) I remember hipsters like Jo Whiley clambering all over Jon and saying how great the album was. Now gimps like her and MTV wouldn't touch him with a bargepole.

I enjoy Destination Anywhere. It's very un-Bon Jovi but doesn't suffer for it.

Heard the original of this today on the radio and it reminded me of seeing this live at the O2 a couple of years back, great fun that night and Jon seems in great form and the band having lots of fun with it (hopefully we will see energy like this again once they warm up next year and arrive in Europe)

We can only wish. If Steven Tyler can produce this kind of energy (and more) in every song; and he's over 10 years older than Jon; then so can Jon. We need this energy and gravelly voice in every song!

Everytime Jon plays Under Pressure he absolutely nails the highnote on 'Higherrrrr' and that was probably the best I've heard him on it.

Why doesn't he attempt these highnotes with Bon Jovi anymore? That was something that was much more difficult compared to some that he can't nail.

Rare Live TV show performance of the best song of the Bounce record

JBJ's tshirt is somewhat suggestive, wonder what the wife would have to say.

Decent performance, the studio version should have had the outro that the live performances like this had.

Great performance. From the brief two week period when it was "the next single".

It's from Stranger In This Town US tour. You can listen to the whole album "On Lead Guitar" for free on Spotify, which is from that concert, it includes 12 songs from it. Just find Richie Sambora as an artist. The I'll Be There For You was also included in some deluxe versions of Undiscovered Soul.
