Although he completely muffs the lyrics out on the circle from that version in L.A. I like the one from St. Paul:

Completely agree. Even if he didn't sing the chorus properly, it was a great live song. And is such a shame that by the time they hit Europe, it was already dropped as a staple and only played a few times and even those were early in the set, so I never got to hear it live, and probably never will. As a main set closer it was a great choice, for that specific slot it works IMO even better than KTF, the song that replaced it. But who knows, if Jon still kept I Love This Town, maybe he'll remember this song too. Whenever they're on a spontaneous encore and thinking what else could they play at the moment, it's a great choice late in the show.

Getting back on the TD topic, Jon's solo fan club '98 performance shouldn't be forgotten. Off course, he still had the 90s voice and the crowd participation helped a lot, but my favorite part is the way he sang the "I guess I'd rather die..." part. He kept it low, but sang it a bit differently from a studio version, and that's how he should sing it nowadays.

I had Love's The Only Rule as the final song in Dublin, night 2. I loved it in that place, but at the same time I felt like they wouldn't close the show with it and was kinda expecting another song, but for 28 songs that night I can't really complain.

This is a fantastic show.

bonjovi_cro 01-09-2013 09:37 AM

I was loving me some David Bowie and stumbled upon this.

Its nothing special, but wtf was that on 3:26? Jon goes for it kind of, not very common thing for him lately(in last 15 years give or take). Its nothing extraordinary, but I am little bored with new single so...

That's actually pretty good, more musicianship shown there than on the whole original band version.

Live in Red Bank 1996, full show proshot with interviews etc

01 - All I want is everything
02 - Damned
03 - These days
04 - You give love a bad name
05 - I'll be there for you (Richie on vocals)
06 - Someday I'll be Saturday night
07 - Rocking all over the world
08 - Keep the faith
09 - Wanted dead or alive
10 - Run Rudolph run
11 - What a wonderful word (Tico on vocals)
12 - The Chanukah song (David on vocals)

Interesting setlist (no Prayer, Bad Mx), and what a bunch of opening songs! I'm assuming this was a fanclub show?

Andi

i have this somewhere-always was under the impression it was the last of the new jersey xmas shows they did in the 90's.

Captmorgs 01-17-2013 03:13 AM

One of my favorite performances of In These Arms. Just wish that Jon and Richie weren't sick this night, and this could have become the acoutsic live double album that I always wanted.

Yeah, that's definitely the best version around. Can't believe it was 8 years ago... I'm not like the song's biggest fan, but they rocked on this performance.

Always felt a little bit underwhelmed with this song live tbh..the band however usually rock it out and sound great, Jon's vocals however always sounded a bit low in the mix and weak compared to the record. I saw it live as an opener 5 times, and the crowd went crazy with the intro and the rocking sound of the band until Jon starting singing and was hard to hear, then the energy often dropped :(

Great song though.

I always thought that whole show as pretty good. There's quite a few proshot performances like this one knocking around out there actually. Hopefully the BBC radio 2 show next week will be as good as this.

Walleris 01-17-2013 03:10 PM

Regarding the LMS live performances, to me it is one of those songs that you simply shouldn't downtune when you play it live. It's already very low vocally and when they did it sounded terrible. I know they do it to every song as a habit, but LMS really suffers from him as you can barely hear Jon and he's singing with his lowest voice possible. To a lesser extent, WWBTF could've sounded a lot better played in original key.

I guess that explains it then!

I love Radio saved my life tonight also, but with the lower key they do it live Jon sounds too quiet and unengaged. The band still rock out, it's an odd mix of the two.

Had not seen this before:
Jon and Richie joining Bruce for Glory Days in Dortmund 1993 - one day after they had performed their own show there (both artists must have had quite fast roadies considering how short the time was to change the equipment in the arena):

WWBTF was recorded half a step down and performed half a step down. LMS was recorded standard and performed half a step down.

Holy crap, you're right, it's an additional half step down? Why would they even bother?

IndiannaRose 01-21-2013 03:48 AM

Stay (Crush sessions demo):

Incredible vocals. Whoa.

GabrielC 01-21-2013 04:45 AM

I think Stay is one of the best ballads they ever wrote. Must be the best since 2000, too, way better than Thank You For Loving Me and Make a Memory.

Jones Beach, 07/21/1995, full show. The band on top of their game.

I wasn't there, but I saw them in Milwaukee a couple weeks after that (08-11-1995). Awesome show, but also wish I could go back and relive it!

David Bryan looks quite miserable here as well, by the way.

He has been looking miserable recently. He used to smile and jump around a lot but now he seems a bit withdrawn. Maybe his heart isn't in it any more now he's a big Broadway guy.

I'm under the impression that both Tico and David would rather have had another year off, and Jon's really the only one who wants to tour this time.

Yep. They all have their own things going on. I think the only person in the world asking for a new album and tour were Jon and his financial hanger ons.
