These two are probably my favourite In These Arms performances:

I also liked Dortmund '93 a lot until I realized that Jon screwed singing over his own playback in the end.

Gregsynthbootlegs 05-03-2016 06:53 PM

Why would Jon need playback on that song?

Lucas_Roli 05-03-2016 07:02 PM

To "fill out" the sound.

Gregsynthbootlegs 05-03-2016 07:12 PM

Fair enough - makes enough sense for me!

Gregsynthbootlegs 05-03-2016 07:15 PM

Just stumbled upon this. While it's not at the level of the late 80s/early 90s versions I've heard, I think Jon really did well on this one - he really went for the choruses. How's this performance ranked on this site?

I always go back to this video. The energy surrounding it seems cool. Does anybody know if the songs are available anywhere in their entirety without the annoying interviews with the backstage members in them?
I think this is my favorite performance of Prayer (the last one).....

Great to see my first ever Bon Jovi concert from Wembley Stadium in 2000 be finally uploaded to Youtube. Shows how fun it is trying to film from GA there! Poor sound, poor visuals but it's made my day!

Yeah at that time (when there was no overpriced Golden or Diamond Circle) it really must've been a bitch to film from the pit. I agree on the quality - I transferred this VHS some weeks ago and didn't even bother to watch it then :D

If u skip to 1:03 you'll think that you're actually listening to IML.

Bon Jovi - Live in Bremen, Germany 2000

Gregsynthbootlegs 05-14-2016 02:33 PM

Bremen is a great show - much better than the officially released Zurich show!

Faceman 05-14-2016 03:23 PM

There were a lot shows during The Crush Tour that were a lot better than Zurich.

That LOAP was awful. No singing technique whatsoever and so many off notes. It's painful to hear.

Mr. Happy 05-14-2016 05:24 PM

I don't know why he even bothers playing Living on a Prayer anymore if that's the best vocal he can pull off. Either change the song (TLFR style) to make it singable, drop the key a metric tonne, or drop the song entirely. Squeezing those notes out has to be physically painful for him, and listening to them is physically painful for us. Time to change it up.

As much as I respect the effort he's obviously putting into that last chorus, I'd rather him not be coughing up blood. It's just a rock concert. Don't kill yourself over it

bonjovi90 05-14-2016 05:55 PM

I've often wondered what the rest of the band must be thinking when they have to listen to these vocals on their IEM's for 2+ hours each night :D

I had similar thoughts. What must Tico, David and Hugh be thinking having to put on their 'happy face' and play shows knowing how much it sucks just compared to a few years ago. Moreover, what Phil must be thinking, something like "he wasn't this bad when I first joined him".

And also, David should be pushing Jon hard to drop a step. Maybe he does that already, who knows.

Well, you can see Tico's face right after the first chorus. Generally I guess it's difficult for them, since a voice doesn't work like an instrument. If a guitar is wrongly tuned, then you just re-tune it in a minute. It sounds wrong to them, but what can they do? Point it? Jon knows and can't do a lot for that. They just show courage and empathy for their singer.

Dropping the song one step down (in D) would be a good idea. I know that the song will lack energy, but maybe Jon will be more confident and comfortable singing...

EDIT: I think it is obvious that the "livin on a praaaayer" before the solo was pre-recorded. 2 seconds before, Jon turns around. Maybe confirming the lip-syncing?

It is pre-recorded. They used the one from New Meadowlands 2013 live stream on all of the 2015 shows.

Agreed and that's always what happened when they released an official live video. Of each 1995, 2000 and 2008 I could easily name 5 better shows from the top of my head.

I suspect this would have been posted at the time but tour of Jon's house and the recording studio. https://youtu.be/SiJ57RVs0oI .... at one point he proclaims "without Richie Sambora the sound wouldn't be the same"!

Jon Bon Jovi - Janie Don't Take Your Love To Town (Modena 1998) - YouTube

"The arrangement with the orchestra and the backing singers forced him to sing in a higher key which enhanced the performance a lot."

What a voice he had in this one!

The video is better but the audio seems a little off... it doesn't have as much bass and the L and R aren't balanced

Found this channel with lots of Bon Jovi instrumental tracks. They sound like the real deal but a bit heavy on the bass. Any idea what the source is?

Great find! Except the bass, the sound is great!

How weird it is to watch Jon half assing through Sleep When I'm Dead after seeing Phil X rock out on Shook Me All Night Long.

That was probably the highlight of the night for me. Seeing this vid brings back pretty good memories. Deep down, I knew Jon's voice sounded pretty shot, but that Sydney gig was fun - particularly hearing Diamond Ring (a favourite of mine) for the first time :)

The solos at the end were my favorite part. I hope for the next tour it doesn't take them 80 some shows to start doing stuff like that....

I THINK these were pulled using the tracks from Rock Band/Guitar Hero (whichever it was) back in 2011ish.

What an amazing performance man... would've been even better if it was Richie instead of Bandiera. It's bitter sweet seeing these old covers that Jon used to do with so much passion knowing we'll never get something like this ever again...

That cover was excellent, I remember listening to it over and over again when I got the bootleg back in the day.
