I don't believe that at all... Jon admitted that he'd make the worst A&R guy!

He takes pride in being the bands leader but says that everyone has a role to fill.

There was more of a band-feeling to them in the 80's, but even back then Jon said that every member had his saying and that he was the one making the ultimate decision. Bob Rock mentioned in an interview around one or two years ago that when they were recording Keep The Faith the dynamics had shifted a lot more towards Jon.

That being said - I agree with you that everyone has a certain role to fulfill and he keeps emphasizing that when talking about his quarterback-theory.

Jon forming Bon jovi management probably had something to do with the shift in dynamics within the band. It only got more pronounced from crush onwards, especially after LH when Richie's presence in the band creatively, live and in interviews....

Richie's involvement with the band post LH was as high as ever, I don't think it was until 2012 that his co-writing input had any changes.

Writing and recording the circle sure, but I stand by what I said. Even as far back as the hand tour, his presence on stage, his appearances on interviews with Jon and especially his backing vocals were all dissipating from tour to tour and that's why the band can progresively be seen turning into the Jon show as those tours go on, not because Dave's and Tico's input and presence is less valuable but because Richie's was so important....

So in the he said/he said category, the two stories kinda balance each other.

Maybe I just happened to hear the "Frankie" story more?

I have heard Jon say in interviews that he isn't the best at judging songs to be put in albums. And then there was the story about a song that was put in the reject pile and Jon said once a song went there they weren't pulled back out. Except for one time a song was pulled out and it was a hit song. But I can't remember what song it was now. Can someone help me out here?

This must have been Always.
As far as I remember Jon put it aside and I think John Kalodner convinced him that it's a hit so they put it on Crossroad. And the rest is history.

The entire show blew us all away. We sat around drinking beer after the show in a bar near MSG saying "holy shit" I can't believe I just heard that.

Yep, there's full audio and video of it. But it really just took off after they were forced to leave the stage. After that their performance went from good to stunning.

I love the part at 3:54 right after the chorus when Jon starts screaming like a ****nut WOOOW NO NO NO. Does anybody know what note he hits?

luceknight 08-05-2016 12:27 AM

wow his voice was so clear and young in the beginning, looks like he was 12 lol

Can't tell you but he didn't sing that high. The pitch on the tape is wrong (often happened on old cassettes) and it's at least 1/2 step too high.

maybe thats what happened in the beginning of the song too cause you can barely tell thats JBJ. Its actually an awesome version.

I was just watching these performances. Is the backing track from the Zurich gigs? I think the vocals are live but somehow I think the music is from the One Wild Night live cd....

Nice tribute of Damned TV to Stranger In this Town album that celebrated 25 years, with this cool Father Time version from the awesome San Diego performance

acoustic sounds better. Possibly also a live performance sounds better than the record.. John Shanks has not done a great job on the studio.
