https://youtu.be/SJff5NvkdpM PS. I've never seen Jon look as pained during any song as he does here. He literally looks like he's going to drop dead anytime. The way he bends his whole body to even touch the high notes on the choruses - yikes, double yikes, triple yikes - looks really unhealthy. There must be something terribly wrong with his singing technique. EDIT: Another painful (literally) Always rendition was done in Los Angeles '17: https://youtu.be/-ixPjmh4PdE Poor guy... I honestly wonder if his head is going to explode someday while he's singing Always. ANOTHER EDIT: Here's a better quality version of the performance you originally posted: https://youtu.be/iSj6V5u0p3M The way Jon belts out the "words don't RHYME" before Richie's outro solo legitimately sounds like the 90's all over again. I really still can't believe how he was first able to get back on such a high level in terms of his vocal quality and then basically lose it all within the following three years... the thing is, did his technique honestly take a noticeable (visible) turn to worse at some point? I can't really call myself a singing expert even though I've been singing privately/semi-privately for more than 15 years and have taken vocal lessons since late 2016, so an(y) explanation would be nice. Walleris or Gregsynthbootlegs, you know what to do! :D |

Just as bad as the stuff that Richie releases.

Bad Name from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night

Decent performance. Phil doing the little pick slide after the second verse that Richie used to do live.
Obviously a personal preference, but Bad Name sounds better with the whammy bar, especially the dive bomb during the solo. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Nice video with David doing parts of Runaway, Bad Name and Prayer with a band called Rubix Kube. I'm surprised David is still capable of reaching the high notes of the key change because it sounds to me like they are doing it in the original key. |
Since I'm currently listening a lot to the LH record, here's a rare Pro Shot recording (taken from the screen) from the Newark run in 2007. Even though it's definitely not among my favourites (even on LH), this performance somehow keeps putting me in a good mood. The band were clearly enjoying themselves. |
So now everyone is a LH fan now, huh? Shameful bandwagoners y'all...

F***, this band was good back in the day:
https://youtu.be/DsrT3crxfk8 I'm almost crying. Philadelphia has always gotten good shows (at least) from the guys - even last year: https://youtu.be/hy9Fhj5_oa0 (THINFS) https://youtu.be/rhrBJLtOMAs (Bad Name) https://youtu.be/5-CMehsRito (Roller Coaster) https://youtu.be/aiBVO_qebc4 (Sleep/Runaway) https://youtu.be/CdqDJgzytDc (GBTM) https://youtu.be/qri1webuWYE (NYD - nice intro speech by Jon, btw) https://youtu.be/VLdgRypBNEw (LYHOM) https://youtu.be/CsYb8GOgqxE (HAND - far from the worst post-June '13 performances of the song) https://youtu.be/W4XoC7aXzLY (Medicine - one of my absolute favorite THINFS tour moments so far) https://youtu.be/X6kmxnCtDpw (KTF - holy shit, Jon even nails the "YEAH yeah yeah"!) https://youtu.be/Oo8ailid2Vk (RYH) https://youtu.be/V7lgG1fJwJ0 (Wanted w/The Fighter as an intro) https://youtu.be/5XW9jWydPKI (Prayer) Philly must've been the best US show last year, alongside St. Paul: https://youtu.be/Lwo32m40a9w |

Mine is not so much split by vocal eras but performance... As great as some performances were in '00, I felt shows were less natural and more rehearsed... This is where I started noticing changes with songs like Bad Name, Etc... That's why I have a simple 2 Jovi category... |
For me one of the bright spots on the infamous 2007 VH1 unplugged show. Why am I posting this now? Two things: 1) 10 years ago I didn't think much of this performance when I first saw it. I thought the song really suffered from being dropped half a step. But I wasn't such a harmony geek like I am now. LeAnn's harmonies are great (Richie pre-2005 level great) and they're much more audible here than the studio version, even if it's in a lower key. 2) They could still play it! In this key the song can be sang by any average baritone (which is who Jon is now) and there are 0 really high notes. Some of the stuff he hit on the last tour (e.g. "lay my hands on YOUUU", "hey man I'M ALIVE") is much higher than any note in this song. If he can't do the classic ballads on regular basis, I wish he tried to make up for it by doing the easier ballads, e.g. Strangers, TYFLM, Memory, Diamond Ring, etc. But for most of the shows they did pretty much nothing, even Scars disappeared from the set. |

EDIT: However, I think Strangers would lose a lot of its magic without a female singer doing it as a duet with Jon. Lorenza isn't there anymore, and LeAnn won't be able to attend multiple shows (maybe MSG with a lot of luck, unless she had her own gigs reserved for those days). Would it really sound as good as it did back in the day with just JBJ singing? EDIT 2: Btw, Walleris; do you think Jon would still be able to sing Open All Night (the Bounce track) nowadays? There's one high-ish note near the end of the song (the last "I don't want to MAKE the same mistakes..."), and as it's the only somewhat demanding note on the song, I think Jon could still hit it - at least sometimes. Whenever he thought his voice wouldn't handle it, he could dodge it by singing it the same way as it's sung on the first two choruses. Good times: https://youtu.be/R4zlgAyGOoc (OAN/live at Mohegan Sun - holy shit, in just a little while it's been ten years already since this performance! Yeah, I do miss those times...) |
It is such a relief seeing Lost Highway taken at such high regards. The production and mix is so great, so refreshing and way different than the albums before and after it. It is also easily my favorite post 2000 album and I think is number 3 after these days and keep the faith.
That said, I've seen til we ain't strangers anymore live, and I remember it being a highlight of the whole show- and that same show had stranger in this town, mystery train and never say goodbye. |

Talking about family: my youngest loves her BJ tunes in the morning and shakes her whole body in hear children's chair. She loves THINFS for example, RC, HAND, TWWTM, and so on, but WWWU? Not so much. Telling? I don't know ;-) |
So now Lost Highway is the best album since These Days... We should go back to 2007 to read how well everyone loved it back then...
I guess that means in 2027, THINFS will finally get some love... Can't wait because I actually enjoy this one... Sent from my HTCD160LVW using Tapatalk |
I've never heard people bash the Lost Highway album. I have always viewed it as quite favorable among fans. The only complaint has been that too many and always the same LH songs has been in the set list for to long now. Lost Highway, WLOL and WGIGO seriously needs a rest (even though I get why WGIGO is there).
|
Lh has a good start then after Any other day drops off a cliff yet....bonus tracks walk like a man , put the boy and Lonley were better than 75% of the tracks picked for this album.

Everybody's Broken-Strangers-Last Night-One Step Closer is as good of a four-song sequence on a Bon Jovi album as it gets for me. Especially, The Last Night, such an underrated gem. I was incredibily lucky to hear the last (probably ever) performance of it at the O2 in 2010. I agree however on Walk Like A Man. That should've been a lead single! |

Wildflower is good. It has smart lyrics and the verses have a really nice melody.

Definitely one of the best post-'01 IBTFY versions I've heard:
https://youtu.be/mQ8zKF2EGLQ The way Jon gets into the song (especially during the ad-lib part) is simply astonishing. Richie's on fire as well. |

https://youtu.be/5ECE6YLisXY Jon absolutely nails the high "Lay my hands on YOOOOOUUUUU...", but his vocals on the rest of the song are very inconsistent and sometimes (very audibly) out of tune. Compared to the IBTFY performance I posted above, it's a sad thing to witness. Or what do you think - was Always better? https://youtu.be/LrRyzZ_paEs The way Jon's voice cracks on the last "will love YOU" (or, as he pronounces it, "will love YAAA") reminds me of my puberty... As for Montreal, here we have Jon going nuts on Saturday Night back in 2010: https://youtu.be/AYw_TnRZSs4 That was such a great era. I miss it a ton. However, Jon was even more possessed with the same song in Sydney (night #3): https://youtu.be/hSqDW6LQZp8 Nashville '13 was great, too (even better - vocally more consistent - than Cleveland for me): https://youtu.be/bT9mnxFlPsk |
