It's hard NOT to think about that performance, given the lyrics of the song and Jon and Richie sharing the mic for the last third of the track. I mean... it's ****ing meant to be. Jon's voice may be damaged as hell anyway, but as performers, these two have not only a chemistry but also a knowledge of each other that can't just be substituted. It's really too bad.

Also, thanks for the link to Any Other Day! I mean... that's basically the same. Richie may be a liability, but damn if he isn't part of the band. Moreso than anybody else but Jon. There's a reason the promo appearances were usually just the two of them.

Great soundcheck of Bed of roses from the Honolulu show of the Circle tour, I like the tonality that John used, he seems more comfortable and free of sing like he wants in that soundcheck.

MSG 2011 night #3 probably was their last truly great US show.

One of the very first promo "live"/singback performances of IML got released on the band's official YT channel:

https://youtu.be/3BPcDkRIG1k

Let's hope for more of these old gems... waiting for the day when, for example, Jon and Richie's legendary acoustic performance at the 1989 MTV music video awards sees the light of day on the official channel :D maybe Jon has finally come to realize that stuff like this is what most of the REAL Bon Jovi fans want and given the band's management the permission to dig in the archives, even it's only for the odd bone thrown for the diehards once in a blue moon.

EDIT: Forget about the MTV awards thing, give us Milan 1993 in proper quality! HEAR ME, JBJ?????

bonjovi90 11-13-2019 12:32 AM

Nah, these kind of promo performances which have often been playback or live-to-track have recently appeared on many VEVO channels from other artists as well.

I wonder what they actually play live and what comes from a backing track there. The voclas are live and probably some of the guitar? Or not. You can clearly hear the UK mix that appeared as bonus on Crush in the Uk.

bonjovi90 11-14-2019 02:27 PM

Richie's playing is insane here!

Contrary to public belief, this actually was Richie's first show after this rehab and not the O2 arena gig in London.

And the moment at 8:44 stands for everything I miss there these days :(

It all seems like yesterday... Even if you aren't a fan of any of those post 2K albums up to that point, there was still a fun youthful JBJ up there...

Still wondering what caused Jon to resurrect The Distance "from the dead" for these two odd promo shows in Japan and then drop it again afterwards?
Somewhat similar to the two Right Side Of Wrong performances at Newark later on...

Faceman 11-17-2019 04:35 PM

And it's even more odd considering he had 39°C fever during both shows in Kobe and Tokyo...or his feverish delirium was the reason why he played the song :D

That may have been the reason. Then he must've had caught the flu in a really bad way because I remember an interview about Live Earth where they said that they flew him in with a helicopter because he was suffering from high fever. And that was more than a week afterwards.

Was Lorenza in the line-up for these promo gigs in Japan? The Distance and Right Side Of Wrong both had strings in the arrangements, so maybe he was trying to figure out how the songs worked with a violin on stage...

Captain_jovi 11-17-2019 04:51 PM

If I recall, The Distance was a bigger hit in that region due to being a beer commercial. I feel like I learned the brand was involved in the show but I could just be remembering things.

Quick question about the title of that video: Is that supposed to be June 30 (30/06) instead of July 30 (30/07)? It says the video was published on July 9, 2007. Kinda hard to do if the show was on July 30 of the same year. ;)

The way it's written I'd say July 30 as well.
But that has to be a typo since the show was on June 30.

Setlist.fm even lists 2 shows in Tokyo on August 10 + 11, that never happened.

Captain_jovi 11-18-2019 05:10 AM

It couldn't have been 2006 since it was the Lost Highway tour.

In this case, I think 06 and 07 refer to June and July. Faceman and bonjovi90's website shows the date as June 30, 2007. (Which I would have known had I checked more carefully. Sorry for confusing the issue...)

Bon Jovi - Never Say Goodbye (Storytellers 2000) - YouTube

2nd best one to me, I like this one more:

bonjovi90 11-19-2019 09:20 PM

Talking about NSG: Here's a unique, almost cowboy-esque ballad version from the SWW tour. Jon kind of plays the main riff on his harmonica in the beginning and in the end and supports him on the keys.

Some of the quotes in there are quite good as well:
Girl in the audience: "She Don't Know Me!"
Jon: "Anything BUT THAT!"

Jon: "That's not a Springsteen song, YOU MORON!"

Jon to Richie:
"Anytime you wanna get your ass in a bad relationship, that's okay with me."
(Didn't really stick true to his words though...)

Looks like Bon Jovi are converting old videos to HD. They’ve started off with Bed of Roses.

Okay, keep going, please." Ahhhh... sigh
