Very much agreed. Many of my friends are no Bon Jovi fans or actually dislike them, but there have been two songs everyone has always been positive about and they are These Days and Wild Is The Wind. No matter if fan, regular listener or hater - everyone always liked these two.
Wild Is The Wind was my very first favourite song in my life - by any band. For me it's pure perfection. Only two or three other Jovi songs hold such a high standard for me :)

Beautiful Day should be on that list.

These Days, Wanted and My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms.

When thinking of it, there are actually more Jon and Richie solo tracks that I regard as perfect as there are band songs [emoji28]

Looking at that setlist, I've gotta say that the first two BJ records are very underrated. When people talk about their favourite songs, they'll say stuff like Prayer, IML and Always, not something from the first 2 records. They're full of great real hard rock bangers, they're the hardest and heaviest BJ albums by far.

On this board, I've rarely heard people mention these as their favorite tracks though. [emoji2]

I'm not talking about the die hards here, I'm talking about the casual fans who only listen to the hits and don't dig deeper into the catalogue.

Instrumental is playback, but Jon's vocal is live (aside few parts on the chorus). pretty good perfomance from Jon, as it is on the original key of the song.

It kinda sounds like Jon has a bit of a cold going on here. His voice is a bit iffy if you ask me. Still a very good performance from him though.

No, at least as far as I know. I'm not sure it's verified that it got recorded in the studio or if it had the same "fate" as Heart Of America and Cadillac Man.

It's registered with ASCAP as Life's Too Short. Debatable if that means it got recorded buuuuuut I feel it was.

Yeah, I feel it was too. I can imagine that it was in the batch of material they gave to Bruce Fairbairn to work through shortly before he passed away. But I can't remember an official demo having been on a release at the time. But there have been too many B-sides in the Crush era that weren't my taste, so I'm never fully sure about that :D

Nah you're right, it was never released. Stylistically and time period wise it was probably recorded the same week as Hush.

Everyday Live

BJFan99 04-11-2020 05:04 PM

This legendary show came to mind from that Everyday upload:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9K-...&frags=pl%2Cwn

Wasn't this actually one of the first internet live streams of a full concert (at least from Bon Jovi)?

EDIT: I'm watching the show right now, and considering the period it seems like Jon was really struggling with his vocals at times. He absolutely butchered the high note before the solo on Prayer, and his death grip on the mic stand during the second half of Bounce with a guitar around his neck looks worryingly familiar...

Then again, he did absolutely great on some other songs like Undivided and KTF. Interesting.

bonjovi90 04-11-2020 05:25 PM

Jon always was a lazy mother****er when it came go getting his vocals in shape for promo cycles, that's why he was sounding bad on occasion even in his good times.

bonjovi90 04-11-2020 06:56 PM

I know that technically this wasn't the first soundcheck with Phil since he had already filled in for Richie in 2011. But this was the first proper soundcheck after Richie had left the band in 2013 in Calgary. Since the plane that was supposed to bring Phil to the show that night was late, Jon and Bobby played guitar at the show and Phil joined for the next concert in Edmonton. Recorded from Jon's In-Ear-Monitor feed and sound remastered!

Setlist:
01. Tuning Instruments [0:00]
02. Raise Your Hands [26:33]
03. Because We Can [32:49]

07. That's What the Water Made Me/ Talking/ Riffs (1st time) [39:29]
08. That's What the Water Made Me (in progress) / Talking/ Riffs [43:38]
09. What About Now (1st time) [48:00]
10. Talking/ Riffs [51:40]
11. What About Now (2nd time) [52:51]
12. Talking/ Riffs [56:29]

20. We Weren't Born to Follow (incomplete version) [1:23:57]
21. Talking/ Riffs [1:26:55]

Thank u again Dominik.
Interesting to see(listen) how the biggest bands,at the end, they soundcheck(with more staff and better equipment,of course) the same way like us,the amateur bands.

It's so weird that I'm 23 minutes into the soundcheck and not a single person has mentioned Richie yet. Does anything come up later on? I thought even by now some of the techs would make a comment on it or something ya know?

At some point, Jon made a teleprompter-related comment about Richie when he said "that's also because of Richie" or something. If that was related to them using teleprompters, it would have been a cheap shot since Jon usually was the one to forget and screw up lyrics.

I heard the whole thing. They mention Richie many many times, but I didn't get exactly what they were talking about. 1 or 2 minutes in somebody calls Phil Richie by accident, too. Will try to get the timestamp

Heard that one, the tech guys were testing the band microphones and accidentally calls it Richie's Mic and then corrects himself to Phil.

I think I was more surprised the band wasn't making a bigger deal of the situation, they're pretty professional about it.

There just just still people who will die on the hill that the band doesn't use any vocal sampling whatsoever and it's all completely live.

Some people really have no clue how live shows work lol. So many bands use some form of sampling, BJ have been for years.

They have used a lot of samples since at least 1993 plus backing tracks/playback in Prayer since at 1987.

And I've no problem with that at all tbh. From my understanding it's pretty common within the industry.

richiefan95 04-12-2020 10:41 PM

Does anyone know if they did remove the backing tracks with Richie's voice in it right after he left or did they carry on with the same ones?

Thanks. I figured it was probably to do with the dreaded samples/backing tracks.
