Really interesting to hear jon being honest about it and see what songs he still likes and which ones perhaps didnt hold up as well...

Are there more reviews?
I cant find them....

Thanks!

I believe that's all he did. If there were any more it'd be on the official channel but I don't think there is.

Late 2013 nonetheless, what a beautiful performance. Jon still had something left in himself at this point.

This show was THE TURNING POINT of the Keep The Faith tour and the one that gave us the "holy" month of April. Jon referred to this concert a couple of times in interviews himself.
Allegedly, someone had said to him backstage that this would be the last time he'd be able to play such a venue since Keep The Faith had been far behind most people's expectations and ticket sales weren't going well either.
It is said that this put Jon over the edge and they went on to perform as if it was the last time they'd be able to take any stage. Concert attendees stated that Jon had to literally be carried off stage due to physical exhaustion after the set.
That being said - also the crowd is extremly energetic and loud and the band probably also soaked up this vibe. It was like everything that had held them back on the first part of the tour got knocked off.

Setlist:
01. Intro [0:00]
02. I Believe [0:49]

For real?? I didn't know THAT happened with KTF.

I'm not disagreeing with that. Even in the earlier days when he'd constantly boast they're a band and tell interviewers that people would print what they wanted as the headline. I'm sure there were cases he asked them not to and cases where it happened. But legit to complain about it happening in 2020 for something that's one of the most common issues with the Bon Jovi promo like it's earth shattering is too much. It happened a lot during the height of the band's band-ness.

"earth shattering"? Haha, Nope. "Pathetic" would be a more apt term.

I guess! This is one of those "pick your battles" issues to me. If you're still getting bent out of shape about the him/them band in the press thing in 2020, you'll be tugging your hair for awhile.

This band was so f-ing brilliant. The rasp in Jon's voice on this performance is sublime. 2010/2011 was an amazing period for the band.

Butters 12-24-2020 01:41 AM

Jon could still deliver a really good vocal by the end of 2014. I thought his voice was completely busted by then. He's clearly struggling at the highest parts in the song but it's still very impressive.

I agree. He actually did Please Come Home For Christmas at the same show and sounded very decent on that one as well:

Jon's mullet should default a victory, but Richie's open shirt gives it a run for its money. Holy crap.

A show that often got overlooked in the crazy month of April. Insane energy, in fact, I can't even begin to understand how they were able to keep up these kind of shows for almost two months straight on a daily basis. Well, it was to backfire later on that tour.
Taken from an audience master tape, new two-way remaster! Only some nearby clapping is getting a bit in the way, other than that, great sound!

Jon vocals were stunning in there!

bonjovi90 01-07-2021 05:55 PM

Agreed! Even though it was castrated as hell to fit the TV format lenght-wise, him singing in the original key (and not struggling with it) made this a great one. I wish they would've done the second verse as well. Even with playback instruments, the live vocals really would've made for a great rendition.

Can i disagree about stunning and effortless vocals? I've Heard much Better vocals from him...let's not be nostalgic and a bit more realistic

Are you out of your mind? Those vocals were incredible...

A few bum notes in the beginning but once he goes high and hits the choruses, hes perfect especially on that last one...

So okay, 9.5 out of 10...

It's not really fair to compare it to other Dry County performances because they were half step down, whereas this one is in the original key (as Dominik noted), which is substantially more impressive.

Agreed. Nowhere did I say that it was one of his best vocals ever, but I've heard Dry County performances that were half a step down and where he was far less impressive (like the 1993 release). He was adding subtle rasp and nuances here in the original key that just make for a nice listening experience. I've certainly heard him do worse when he had to sing in the studio key for TV performances.

They recorded two takes - one for Japanese TV (the one I posted) and one for TOTP (with the show's logo set up in the background). They're very similar:

You did spot that "little" Exclusive via Satellite logo in the beginning?

Bon Jovi used to record and the transmit "performances" for TOTP many times.
In These Arms from Glasgow in 1993
Always from the Niagara Falls in 1994
Dry County from New York in 1994
This Ain't A Love Song from somewhere in Asia in 1995
Hey God from Ostend 1996
One Wild Night from (I think) Ottawa 2001

You missed a Keep The Faith performance which was from a Studio somewhere in New York
I seem to remember Someday I'll Be Saturday Night from some football stadium (performed on the pitch) but I could be mixing that up with something else?
And Something For The Pain in front on a Plane from an Airport somewhere!?

It might've been misleading. They recorded both performances in NYC (was originally planned to be done on the rooftop of a skyscraper, but cancelled due to bad weather). One performance was then sent to Japanese TV (I guess Rock City on WOWOW TV) for their program, the other was sent to the UK for the Top Of The Pops program.
