Climate Crisis
I just watched the Al Gore movie/lecture "an inconvieniant truth".
IMO it is a great shame that the man didnt become president, not only for America but for the rest of the world aswell. There are certain things that he talks about that make me wonder if the damage we have already done will be too much for the planet to take? , and it is scary. Ive also just watched the movie/documentary "who killed the electric car". i had no idea that these cars had been made and used in California in recent years, and then removed from the roads for various reasons. (It seems mainly in the interests of continuing the obscene profits made by the oil companies). I was wondering if Bush is still trying to drill for oil in Alaska or if thats idea has been dropped now? |

The problem, or perhaps the solution to the problem, is that we'll run out of fossil fuels within the next 50 years, perhaps faster at the rate we're growing as a species, so there will be a point where we can physically no longer pump all this stuff into the air and will have no choice but to find alternate sources of fuel and power. |
To be honest global warming is the least of my worries. Nothing I can do about it so why worry???

Neil,
when i said "too much too take "i meant in terms of how the changes will impact on human survival. Carli there is lots you can do. there is lots we can all do to help ourselves. |
In the grand schemme of things it wont make any difference. I really think its just scare mongering.

i think the whole i cant do anything about it thing is just something us in the UK adhere too.
in germany they're REALLY big on recycling. there's bottle banks and different bins for different materials everywhere. there's also very little litter lying out on the streets which i found kind of strange but if you think about it. if people in the UK didnt throw all their crap ont he street and we had more recycling depots, different bins etc... the individual doing their little bit along with everyone else would make a difference. |
It comes down to not giving a crap and too many people don't give a crap, afterall, why should they have to use normal cars instead of gas-guzzling, fume-pumping mostrosities that they so love to take their kids to school and do their shopping in? <sigh>
Recycling is so much more accessible now than it has ever been so there really is no excuse not to do so and anybody who doesn't is just plain lazy, ignorant and selfish IMO. |
Dont get me wrong il recycle and do my small part im just saying that unless everyone gives up their cars, Air con, etc It wont work anyway. I do think the Government scares us about all this stuff anyway
