Foo Fighters - Live

For anyone that has seen the band live, you'll be able to give your opinion on this. I've been watching a bunch of live clips on youtube the last couple of days, and I dare say, they are probably the most sound rock band live I've ever seen.

Would you say they sound so good live because of a raw studio sound with very little "over" production or simply because they're a great live band?

Or, maybe it all stems from Dave Grohl. If you haven't seen any of their stuff live, check them out. As someone who has grown tired of so many live acts today, they impress the hell out of me in concert.

For some reason, I LOVE his voice on the records. Definetely in my top 5 but everytime I see a clip of them live, he sort of screams his way through and doesn't have the power he has on the album. But anyways, they're definetely one band I want to see one day. They're in a handful of bands I need to stop talking about seeing and actually see.

Mad4Jovi 10-20-2006 03:36 PM

They're amazing live!

I've seen them twice this past year and they're definitely one of my favourite bands live. They're tight on stage, entertaining, rock like a bastard and are heavier live than on the CD's.

One thing I will say though, is that when Dave Grohl took the drums for one song during the show I couldn't look anywhere else, and I'm normally a guitar girl. His playing is out of this world, so maybe it does have something to do with his personal magnetism?

Whatever it is, it works and I recommend anyone to go and see them if you get the chance :D

bjcrazycpa 10-20-2006 05:58 PM

They are a band I definitely want to see live.

I very much like the foos but live they are just alright.

If you think BJ are GREAT and you like Foo music, you will be blown away.

Otherwise, they are just average. Yes, they rock and yes, Grohl is 'right there'. Great band, great music, but I do think they play too big stages for their own good. They don't fill the stage and the audience. I can see them kill on smaller venues though.

I'm going to try and type this clearly, but it may be tough with all the dirt you just kicked in my face.

I don't agree that they play too big stages for their own good. Their Hyde Park show this summer was fantastic. I've seen them at football stadiums and arenas and I think they can rock to the back row of each sized venue JMO.

No two ways about it - It was an insult. A very arrogant, opinionated one.

The only types of opinions I don't have respect for are those from fans that think they know something the rest of us don't.

Jim Bon Jovi 10-22-2006 06:06 AM

ive seen them around 7 times and they're kind of like idlewild in that they're all over the place.

when they're great they';re astounding but catch them on an off day (asi have a few times) and you think, why do they get all that praise for being great live.

How was that an insult? :?

Captain Walrus 10-22-2006 10:41 AM

Seen them twice, and they are very good live, but there's just something missing stopping them being truly great in my eyes, I'm not sure what it is ... I do however know that Hyde Park was disappointing, as they only played an hour and twenty minutes, and the setlist was almost exactly the same as when I saw them at Reading last year

While we're on the subject, was anyone aware they have a live acoustic album coming out next month? I only found out about it yesterday

You don't think that's insulting to Bon Jovi fans? What she's saying is Bon Jovi is not great live, but for those of us that think they are, then we'll think the Foos are as well - Meaning the Foos (in her opinion) aren't that great live either.

Javier 10-23-2006 02:52 AM

I don't really see that comment as insulting, sorry.
Spunky's just being a smart ass.
and up to now, she's getting away with it. :)

I didn't say she's insulting me. I just think it's an insulting remark. Sounds like something a die hard U2 fan would say.

I saw them last year on a festival. I was with a friend who is a major fan ... To be honest - they aren't really my thing.
Half of the time I was wondering what he (my friend) was so excited about..

Huh? what?

You asked for opinions and I gave you mine.

If you are offended by people NOT agreeing that BJ is the best live band to date, then you've got a problem.

For me, I know people have different views on shows and define 'the best' or 'great' differently. It's how it should be. Too bad you are having a hard time with the fact that not everyone defines 'great' the same way you do and find it offensive if pointed out.

I'd never be offended if someone was to say: If you think Audioslave puts on the best show despite their lack of pyro or other gimmicks, you'd like XYZ. Otherwise, you might find XYZ to be a boring act." I'd view this statement as 'putting things into perspective' as I can't rely on someones statement of a great act if I don't have a benchmark for that persons opinion.

All opinions are equally valid. Whether you agree with them or not and whether you are offended by them or not.

Grow up.

If you aren't talented enough to read between lines, you might be better of just sticking with the obvious words.

I stated what I thought about the Foos and never said they 'wheren't great live'. Nor did I say BJ was not great live. Certainly did I not say that people who think BJ is great live are bad or stupid or whatever you might want to imply. Stop being so ****ing defensive!

I am not being a smart ass. I gave a frame of reference for my opinion. If one, in general, does not feel the same as I do about shows, then they may not care too much about my opinion on the Foo show. If one, in general, agrees, they may find my comments more valuable. It's how it works. Provided, one doesn't simply take statements at face value, or worse, out of context.

*sigh*

Javier 10-24-2006 01:11 AM

I still think you're being a smart ass. :)

Goddamn - Take some Midol or something. All I said was, it sounds insulting. I don't know how you meant it to sound. I'm just saying how it came across to me as. Chill out.

I am seeing them live in a couple of weeks with Bob Dylan and it will be acoustic. I'm really looking forward to it, somehow I can't imagine and acoustic Foo's show, but it will be interesting! And I agree with what you said about their live shows. I have only seen them once at a festival. They were supposed to play 2 hours and it ended up being an hour and 10 minutes. I also felt that while they were great live, there was something missing...

Uhuh. First 'there was no two ways about it; it was an insult'. Now it just 'sounds' insulting, but you didn't know how she meant it. As you were also stating that she didn't insult *you*, whereas you first posted something about dirt she's kicked in *your* face. Strikes me as a little weird.

What strikes you as weird? To me, there is no 2 ways about it. It was an insult. Maybe she didn't mean it that way, but that's how it came off to me.

As for the dirt in my face, it was sarcasm.

Oh no - Don't gang up on me. I'll be back. I have to ask some friends to sign up and help defend me.
