Prayer tops VH-1 countdown
VH1 counts down the '80s greatest hits
VH1, which has made a cottage industry of revisiting the 1980s, will count down the decade's 100 Greatest Songs in a five-part series beginning with back-to-back episodes Monday (9 p.m. ET/PT). Taking the top spot: Bon Jovi's 1986 Livin' on a Prayer. The rest of the top 5, based on an online survey which received 44,000 votes: Def Leppard's Pour Some Sugar on Me; Duran Duran's Hungry Like the Wolf; Michael Jackson's Billie Jean; and Prince's When Doves Cry. http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/...e_x.htm?csp=34 |
Excellent!! I know I voted quite a few times in this poll.

It's about time they topped a damn poll! It annoys me when you sit up watching some of these programs to see how many Jovi tracks feature and they haven't even got one track in the top 100 let alone the top 10. It just makes it obvious how skewed some of their research is - although, in contrast, VH1 has always been very pro-Bon Jovi. I love that channel!!!
I only wish I had it :( |
As great as Prayer is, I am quite surprised that it still topped Billie Jean!!

I think Billie Jean is Michael's best song for sure. Understated, but solid and great.
I was a bit surprised that Prayer was voted #1!!, but hey, it's all good! |

id usually be happy about this, but if i put my jovi allengiences aside its still bound to be a very skewed poll as these things always tend to be.
It will be interesting to see where all the other big or bigger hits come in. Sweet Child of mine? Every breath you take? With or without you/Where the streets have no name? Summer of 69? These are probably my personal choices for best single for the 80s, along with Prayer and Wanted of course. andi |

Sad to see someone who pumps out hits back in the day like no one's business is now reduced to a circus show. |
