Bon Jovi country record?
 

I guess you could say that I have been out of the bon jovi loop for the last 3 months. Just began to check up on the band to see what's going on since the withdrawls after the end of the HAND tour. So from what I've read the next record might be a country record? This cannot be for real. I mean a country version of a song is great and all and it's cool that it was a hit but come on bon jovi are not a country band in any way. Am I the only one that's not really too excited for a "country" record. On the other hand the greatest hits would be cool if they added some new stuff to it. As long as they don't turn into what Kiss has become which is just greatest hits after greatest hits. meh:rolleyes:

I don't think bon jovi will ever turn into kiss *fingers crossed*. They have yet to go crazy with best of's and greatest hits. Sure, there's the occasional live recording or re-working of the hits but that's hardly "HERE'S ALL OUR SONGS ON ONE CD FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER GO BUY IT THIS X-MAS"

It's no secret they've kept the bigger hits off of compilation cds, and for good reason.

I'm not a country music fan but actually I am excited about the new record. It seems it will be a "band" record now where before I thought it was going to be just a Jon and Richie thing. As long as the songs are good, I don't care if it's called country, rock, pop, etc.

I think with the greatest hits there will definitely be a few new songs on it.

I personally don't know what to think about this country record. Jon has said that they're country songs without the twang. How does that work? Are Who Says You Can't Go Home (the band version) or Someday I'll Be Saturday Night or These Days or Blaze Of Glory country songs without the twang or are they just rock songs? If you take the twang out of country doesn't it cease to be country and become a pop/rock song, which is exactly what Bon Jovi always do.

I like the fact that Jon and Richie could do some seriously good songwriting on this project but I hate the fact that they're calling it a country record (when it might not be) just to capitalise on the success of the duet with Jennifer Nettles. Jon has always proudly said that one of the reasons Bon Jovi have stuck around and stayed relevant is that they stayed true to who they are and didn't go grunge or rap or boyband when they were popular but he's completely betraying that now. I guess I'll reserve judgement until the album is out.

Take it for what it's worth but when Jon was asked by a local Nasville TV station on the CMA's red carpet about them making the record in Nashville and how everyone was wondering if it was a "country" record Jon said "its a Bon Jovi album... people connect to the lyrics not the type of music"

The country genre has broadened so much. If you look at songs from the Eagles like Desperado, Take It Easy, Lying Eyes, etc, or songs by John Mellencamp that's more what the current country sound is like. There is still some super twangy stuff but not like it used to be.

yea sure look at garth brooks and keith urban most of thier songs are classified country but the twang really isnt there 2 much

I'm just wondering, wich ones and from wich compilation? Crossroad had them all, TLFR had all the big ones, Tokyo Road was supposed to be a ballad free complilation wich definitaly worked and covered all the non-ballads big hits...

So why has Jon been calling this a country album? If it's just another Bon Jovi record then all this/that country talk is nothing but a pulicity stunt. Jumping on the bandwagon of what's popular right now.

I think he means compilations like Pure 80's and Monster Ballads and all those things. Not ones the band puts out.

Maybe I missed it, but I don't think Jon caled it a "country album", but rather said it was "country influenced", couple that with them writing songs in Nashville and collaborating there(which a lot of artist that don't sound country do and These days had writing sessions there aswell), fans chose to read into it what they chose.
