Thanksgiving
Should we have it here in the UK? After all its not a religious holiday , as far as i can make out its a holiday just to celebrate being thankful for what we got .So do you think it would work here ? it would mean an extra day of work.

Hmmmmm, how odd ... I just Wikipedia'd Thanksgiving, and this is what I got:
"Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day, is an annual one-day holiday to give thanks for the things one has at the close of the harvest season. In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, and in Canada it is celebrated on the second Monday in October. In the United Kingdom, Thanksgiving is another name for the Harvest festival, held in churches across the country on a relevant Sunday to mark the end of the local harvest, though it is not thought of as a major event (compared to Christmas or Easter) as it is in other parts of the world. This tradition was taken to North America by early settlers, where it became much more important. Michael Jackson likes little boys." Note the last line |
I'd like it here in Ireland.
Only cos Id get a day off work and two Turkey days a year :D |
Hmm....I never associated Michael Jackson with Thanksgiving before :p
I look at it as a nice time to get together with family and eat good stuff and maybe - just maybe - drink a bit too much :) When we sit down to eat - each of us comes up with at least one thing they are thankful for. By the time we get around the table it's usually quite a nice list. Kathleen |
that sounds really nice Kathleen

I always thought of Thanksgiving as a American thing and never heard it being celebrated by anypne other than Americans. I like eating my turkey at Christmas and how ever long after it lasts! so i dont think i would really go in for introducing it over here.
