1. it wasn't Kev who decided this
2. you can say thank-you to the people who abused the file-sharing forum and shared official released stuff. This was the reason why the file-sharing forum got closed back then.

As the last mod of the late lamented file sharing board I can tell you what happened "in my opinion".

There were several people who behaved horribly and constantly complained to Peter about various things - his choice of mods being the main topic. One person went so far as to have had his pm and sig privleges revoked - something that is only done in extreme cases. There were several mods in a row that had problems with the same people. Eventually - since those people couldn't take a hint - Peter wound up spending too much time dealing with personnel problems. He didn't need that - he has plenty of other stuff to do.

As the mod - I was trying to add sharing lossless files rather than the mp3s that had been being shared. Many people resisted this and didn't want to deal with EZ Torrent (now dimeadozen).

At the same time - file sharing was becoming more risky. Record companies were just starting to actively sue people and websites. Nobody needs that either.

The decision was finally made to close the forum. It circumvented a whole host of problems. There are other file sharing boards out there and some of them are working quite well - you should search them out.
