paul le guen quits rangers!!!

not that I'm too disappointed considering how he's ran the club since the Summer but I've got a bad feeling Rangers are wandering into the kind of situation celtic found themselves in in the late 90s going through a manager every season or so :-S

Paul Le Guen has resigned as manager of Rangers.

The Frenchman took charge in the summer but has presided over a disappointed season so far, with Rangers 17 points behind leaders Celtic in the Bank of Scotland Premier League.

Le Guen has left by mutual agreement, with executive chairman Sir David Murray saying: "Having met with Paul it was clear that in the interests of the club and all concerned we agreed jointly to him stepping down as manager."

Le Guen stripped the popular Barry Ferguson of the captaincy on Monday, and dropped him from the squad for the next day's match at Motherwell in the Bank of Scotland Premier League.

He claimed Ferguson had attempted to exert undue influence on the Rangers squad, and argued that the 28-year-old was undermining his authority.

It appeared that one of the two men would have to leave, and Le Guen's departure makes him the shortest serving Rangers manager in the club's history,. having served just seven months.

earlier this week he stripped barry ferguson (undoubtedly one of our best players this season) of his captaincy and sai dhe'd never play again under him for "undermining" his position as manager. most of the players especially the Scots rallied round Ferguson and it was really a case of ferguson or him going during the transfer window.

Hopefully we can get someone in quick. even though he's doing really well with Scotland, I'd love Rangers to try and bring back Walter Smith. Sky sports news says ian durrant is temporarilly in charge.

At least you wont lose BArry Ferguson now. What was Tore Andre Flo like at Rangers?? Leeds have just signed him I know he used to be a pretty decent player for Chelsea.

tore andre flo pretty much put the stupid spending on players in Scotland to a halt overnight.

as it stands he's still the most expensive and it can't be far shy of 8 or so years ago that we bought him.

he was mince back then, i can only imagine what he's like now.

we can't afford to lose barry ferguson. a mate text me saying it's a bad day when 1 rangers player can oust a manager but the thing is that ferguson was out there busting his balls for the jersey every week because he is a bluenose through and through whilst le guen would have good on form players on the bench because he'd bought in all these idiots but he had to give them a run because of the money he'd spent on them.

in the end ferguson called him up on it, le guen said he was undermining his position and the dressing room rallied round barry.

i think le guen was kind of arrogant or pompous with regards to the scottish league and the dynamic of scottish clubs. he's certainly come across that was in press conferences and interviews.

walter smith is odds on favourite for the job but i can't see him leaving scotland to come back to ibrox just now when he's doing so well in the 2008 qualifiers which is a real shame. i'd like to see how durrant does and maybe have him hold the reigns until walter does or can come back because another mate and i were talking about old firm managers of the past 10 years and the only 1 foreign manager who's had any real success was wim jansen and that was only for one season because alot of managers outside the UK (even outside scotland and ireland) really don't grasp how huge and important the game is up here.
