maybe 'painted' lips? in carnival everybody gets 'painted', so maybe it's a last kiss to the lips painted with lipstick... :eggface:

I think it's about a tarot card reader and not being able to trust what a fortune teller says or not being able to trust in what the future may bring you at all.

This is one of my favourites, and I'd always had the "carnival lips" line down to be the painted lips of this Gypsie Tarot card reader, where he bet all that he had on the girl he's singing the song to being the heart that the gypsie drew for him.
