NOT IMPORTANT!! see Jon 1/2 naked, sweaty

OK now that I have your attention :) keep reading the pics are there

I am working on a new web page, it's big and has stuff you won't find elsewhere. It's very information based, not super fancy yet.
I put together the section for old magazine and newspaper articles today and hope I can get some feedback on the layout, etc. before I start doing the 2000+ articles to go up. If everybody hates it I want to know now so I can fix it before it turns into a monster.

The first article with pictures and all (including a live Jon all sweaty and hairy in a purple midriff mesh tank top and low rise patched multi-color spandex pants), is CIrcus from 11/30/85 and includes everything from Jon's cover to the small section on Tico's early TV work and gear.

It's a great read, I think.

If you wanna try to navigate the whole site and give me feedback start here :

If you wanna head straight to the articles section start here:

all comments welcome and thanks in advance to all who help out
Dave

I think for what you're trying to accomplish, an information based site, the layout doesn't need to be flashy and colourfull. I like how it looks, it's easy enough to navigate.

I once again sing your praises, sir, a site like this is a great idea. I know I like to spend hours looking for interviews and this will be a nice thing to just go to and look at.

I think it's a great idea. I like the simple outline too. I love reading old articles and scans.

It looks wonderful! I really like what you are doing:)

The idea is great, but the execution is a bit amateurish. The site is as basic as can get and the scans are pretty bad as well.

Of course, I'm probably looking this from a slightly different angle, as I make web pages for a living.

But with a few easy things you could make it a lot more professional. Just crop the scans better, learn to use CSS to easily change the look and feel of the page (this way you don't have to change each page by hand, changing one file is enough) and possibly, get a graphic design, just basic will do.

OK Ice this is what I am looking for..
what is ccs?
is it just the cropping on the scans or is the image quality bad?
I need to find a way to perpare a page for a mag alot quicker, by the time I scan 4-10 pages, crop the non-bj parts, creat the page and put all the links together it took like 2 hours to do the 7 mags yesterday.
thanks for the input and suggestions

CSS. Cascading Style Sheets. They're a way to separate the information from the visuals. You can code the site like you would now, but you just add few lines to the file to link the CSS file to it. After that, you can change the visual style of the whole site by changing the one file.

Try these:

I think the quality was ok, and the text was readable, but some of the scans clearly showed they hadn't been cropped or fixed at all. Also, if you have the scanner, you get better images with it than your camera.

Maybe you could post the articles as PDF's? That way you wouldn't have to place the images on the page, but you could just link to a PDF-file. You could get CutePDF or similar, free program to create the PDFs.
