Hello,

I thought I had already been through Jovi Geek ages ago .... maybe it was something similar like Freek... ???? I dont like being called a Geek !

I wish we could scrap these names, I dont see the point of them, people can see how many posts you have made , why does it need a title, an insulting ones at that.

I don't think it's insulting. Fair enough if you're using the original meaning of the word (a circus performer) but now it just tends to be used by people almost out of jealousy as a name to call people who are a bit smarter than themselves, and on here it's only a bit of fun anyway.

I didnt know it ment circus performer originally....

I see the meaning of Geek as a put down, someone who concentrates obsessively on a subject.

Wonder how long I have to go before it changes...

Well a geek as a circus performer would be someone who'd perform extreme things, like biting heads of chickens etc In terms of use as an insult in more recent years I usually understood it to mean someone who was intellectual. I've usually heard it on American teen shows where you have the stereotypes of the lads who are big and macho and play sports, and then the ones who are smart and actually do well in school being called geeks - often to be found with big thick glasses and a stack of books under their arm lol
In that way really I don't think it works as an insult - because if you are stupid enough to insult a person merely because they are smarter than you, it is more of an insult at yourself

thats the whole point, a geek is someone who is described as havign nothing but studies, ie thick black glasses and a pile of books etc and concentrates on studies or one subject like pc's or maths etc.... The geek might be smart at one thing ie a study topic and in general but are not sociably comfortable and are known to be inept, so I see this as an insult and a put down to be called a geek.

It would be the same if I was called a Jovi idiot , it would be an insult for obvious different reasons. If we have to have these names ,which are not even useful then they should not include derogatory name calling.

My point is that if you are intelligent enough such that people label you like that, you should be able to rise above such a pathetic 'insult'. Just because some people imply the word to mean that a person is socially inept, doesn't mean that they are. Just like blondes aren't all stupid, women aren't all bad drivers, and other such stereotypical things

Jovi Geek isn't so bad. I'd rather be that than an "It's my post" :roll:

I prefer its my post... cos it is your post :D Geek or Freak is name calling thats why I dont like them.
