DryCounty.com has too many popups.

and they're really starting to get annoying, even w/ a popup blocker. everytime one comes up... the blocker has to tell me! is there anything anyone's gonna do about all these frickin popups??!?!?!!?

Thomas Anderson 05-18-2007 12:16 AM

You can stop the blocker from telling you about them

Adrian 05-18-2007 12:17 AM

Popups are the price we pay for having this site. Payment of hard currency can't be accepted apparently, so it's either popups or no Dry County.

Doesn't bother me. I like it here, popups or no.

Adrian

Thomas Anderson 05-18-2007 12:20 AM

I have a blocker, and even adblocked all of the image ads on the pages

Javier 05-18-2007 12:51 AM

I liked it when the ads were game where we could shoot ducks and shit like that.

Captain Walrus 05-18-2007 01:08 AM

Do you mean the main site? If I were you, I'd bypass it and come straight to Jovitalk

Dawn 05-18-2007 01:40 AM

I usually notice the pop ups when I first open the boards but it only takes a sec to get rid of them, then I will get a couple more , have to say Im only usually here for 10 mins at a time so maybe thats why it doesnt bother me.

I have JoviTalk saved in my bookmarks and only get one pop-up when I open it, once I get rid of that i'm free of pop-ups til the next time I visit the site.

Yvonne 05-18-2007 04:50 PM

jovitalks saved on my favourites and it brings no pop ups up

superjovi 05-18-2007 11:13 PM

hmmmm... i go straight to jovitalk too but every time i click a damn link and the page changes... i get one! well.. whatever. i guess theres nothing i can do about it.

Have you tried using Firefox instead of IE? Just doing that eliminates a lot of popups.

I use the new IE (version 7) and I only get one popup a day when I first log in. Afterwards it's all smooth.

I've been using that a lot lately too. I think I like it though because it's very much like Firefox with the tabs which I always liked. I don't get many popups though which is nice.

Another good idea that Bill Gates ripped off :(

Shit - I've had sigs turned off for a while. I had to turn them back on to see what he said. That's really offensive. :(

Aye, if you saw my last post in the current big religious argument thread in NBJ, that'll be the one I'm referring to ...

Alex 05-22-2007 12:07 AM

Ugh, I had no idea to whom you were referring in that thread, Paul (I did read your post). But yeah, that truly is an offensive sig. At least we all can see what an ass this superjovi this, though.

Keeper 05-22-2007 12:24 AM

I hadn't noticed the sig either. I'm so hoping it's intended as some sort of (very bad, not funny) joke.

Becky 06-10-2007 07:40 AM

I had been getting just one pop up when I visited for a while, but now it's more. I have a pop up blocker and the come straight to the message board via My Favorites. I swear I wouldn't mind paying to be a member if it would keep the popups and spyware and other internet parasites away.

What she said:D :D

I've just changed to Firefox and this is one of many improvements I've noticed. With IE my computer was crashing with all the pop ups...and 'cos I've still got Windows ME:oops:
Well worth a try. You can always go back.

(Don't)Lie_to_me 06-30-2007 11:13 PM

At the end of the day, if the site's good points don't out-weigh the bad-points, that shoud stop you coming here.

I never get a pop up or advert on this site thanks to 20mins configuring this n that.

btw WINDOWS ME!!, omg buy a cheapo Dell with XP on it FFS :D Seriously, they are worth it.

ME is fine, there's nothign wrong with it. People slag it off for no reason.

dianebonjovi 07-01-2007 01:06 AM

I use Mozilla Firefox too and come to the boards via a bookmark and never get popups here either.

Maybe for those getting lots you should try running Spybot or Ad-aware. It may be that spyware is causing you to get more popups.

gold_sausage 07-02-2007 09:39 PM

But ME has the scary blue screen.

Every version of Windows has that.

True. But it does seem to be improving, I haven't seen it on my XP once and I've had it quite a good few years - mind you in saying that with all these viruses on it it's going painfully slow and well...I'd rather the blue screen that this slowness.

*gets ready to wipe......that didn't sound too good*

I've seen that plenty of times on my XP machines and even on Vista.
