Madeleine McCann

Surprised there wasnt a thread about this already its not been out of the news here for the last 3 weeks.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6692161.stm

So were her parents right to leave her by herself?? Its not something I would have done, but you cant judge them for it. They will a life sentance anyway, esp its looking more and more unlikely that she'll be found alive :(

It's been in the news here since it happened too. Children abductions and disappearances sadden me immensely. A few weeks before Madeleine another child disappeared on the Canary Islands and he's never turned up yet.

I can't begin to imagine what the parents are going through.

Jim Bon Jovi 05-26-2007 06:16 PM

how can you not judge them? shes just turned 4 and she was the oldest one left in the room....

if it was a labourer or an unemployed single mother no one would be beating around the bush about chastising him.

obviously it's a tragic and sickening story but why is she getting so much attention? a thing on the news said well over 100,000 kids go missing in the UK each year yet when do we hear about them?

my parents are just back from spain last week and said the spanish and portugese are raging because A: they're moaning about the portugese police when they're doing the best they can and B: again, why is a british girl getting so much attention instead of portugese kids?

they saw people on the news that had a little boy kidnapped the week before and nothing had been said or done about that in the news and another had seen their stolen child on a paedophile site and the authorities hadn't done anything about it yet this little girl is having millions spent and thousands of man hours put towards finding her...

I have heard no one voicing such an opinion.

I mentioned the missing boy in my previous post. He went missing weeks before Madeleine, not the week before. And he was in the news as much as she's been, only just in Spain, being Spanish. I think the thing about Madeleine is that it is an international case, not just national.

do you genuinely think there aren't people thinking: this isn't really fair she's getting all the attention when thousands of kids disappear every day especially considering the circumstances in which she was taken?.

I obviously don't know what people are thinking. I only said that I have heard no one say that, either in conversations I've had myself or in the news.

There are people who will complain about everything, you know. And as I said this one is not your average abduction case, given that she was away from home, etc.

And anyway, why should the little girl pay for what her parents did? Let the social services deal with all that after she has been found but right now it's useless and evil to judge them and condemn them.

its there own fault... no sympathy

Jim Bon Jovi 05-26-2007 06:59 PM

how ist it evil?

THEY LEFT A 4 YEAR OLD AND 2 BABIES IN A ROOM ALONE WHILST THEY HAD DINNER.

i suppose if the kid had died in a fire when they left them in the room everyone would say: hey it's not your fault we feel sympathy cos your kids dead.? no chance

Maybe that is a little harsh. Yes, they were wrong to leave her on her own, etc. but can you imagine how much they regret that now. To loose a child and not know where they are, whether they're dead or alive, it's got to be the worse feeling in the world.

It's evil because what they're going through is more than sufficient punishment for what they did. They must be feeling bad enough already, no need to rub it in.

As I said, let the social services deal with the matter if/when the child is brought back, but the child should be sought no matter how she disappeared. It's not her fault! What should the police say or do? Nothing simply because of her parents' negligence?!
