There's a worm or virus on this site

I have twice been on this site and had Dry County give a popup about a "Driver Cleaner" and even when you try to exit the popup, it tries to install something. My antivirus has caught and removed it both times, but I thought I'd post to let you know to watch out for it and if you don't have an anti-virus be careful to not let it install itself.

Thanks Becky

Not sure what you meaning but sounds of it you have a trojan wich gets actived by this site (and lots more) or just by your explorer and coincidence that it been twice on this site.. It's probs not a direct pop-up from drycounty.com.

What sexsites have you visited lately? Crossreference with a database, voila....

None. Whatever it is pops up on this site and then takes over the page for this site, even if I have other pages open at the same time.

Yeah I was just kidding there. But if you type in www.goggle.com and make a type error then you already have the kind of trojan you are talking about.

DON'T CLICK THE LINK

Do you use Firefox Becky and everyone else? It has the best and most accomplished anti-trojan/pop-up filtering functionality - just in case you didn't know, though I'm sure you all did :)

I use Firefox too - for the same reason. A while ago on this site I think Ice convinced a bunch of us to try it and I have been using it ever since.

Same here. I much prefer it now.

Lately I've only been using my Mac, so I haven't had any problems. But tonight I came to this site on my old computer using Internet Explorer and I got the exact same thing as Becky. So it's not just something on her computer..

TheseDays2005 06-11-2007 01:45 AM

The new IE is just as good (if not better) then the latest firefox. Hadn't used IE for years untill I gotten a new PC 2 weeks ago wich has vista and IE 7.
Try it, its good

UKjovi 06-11-2007 10:37 AM

You've got vista? i heard its not compatible with most systems .How do you like it so far?

I've been using Vista for a few weeks myself, and have found that most of the stuff I need works just fine with it. The only annoying thing I find is that whenever I want to change a filename or move a file or install/uninstall anything there is a somewhat annoying greying of the screen and then a message related to it.

UKjovi 06-11-2007 12:52 PM

We were in Milton Keynes at the weekend and there was a display showing the advantages of using vista .It looked impressive especialy with the moving wallpaper .From what i saw though the actual windows part isnt that much different is it?

Well I presume that there are improvements in regards to fixing old flaws and security issues. It does look quite different though if you use the standard Vista look. I do like the 3D tabbed windows though...

It's all a bit 'meh if I'm honest. It is nice and secure though.

Macs are more secure, and no it's not cos they aren't used by many so hackers don't bother, it's cos Apple use better security techniques, too complicated and boring to go on about here :)

I use a MacBook Pro and a Dell running Vista Ultimate, and they are as good as each other pretty much.

UKjovi 06-11-2007 03:58 PM

Wow thats cool !!

Bullshit. Mac is as vulnerable as Windows Vista is, only there aren't enough threats written for Mac.

I could find just as many Windows articles like that. The lack of pettiness in my personality means I won't.

I suppose I'm quik to defend Macs cos they are much harder to investigate in my job. I'm a Digital Evidence Analyst, using forensic tools etc to access data locked down by pedos, fraudsters etc. I find it much easier to get around obstacles and take a hDD image on a PC, so I get the impression Macs are more secure.

Like I said, Windows and OSx are a hairs breadth away from each other now anyways :)

I did download it and I have tried it. It sure is an improvement over the old IE. However, I find it slow. I still prefer Firefox and some of the plugins are incredible.

Extensions, Kathleen, Extensions... IE has plugins.

IE 7 is okay, it's a big improvement, but not enough for me to switch. There's nothing there that hasn't been done better by other browsers.

I never disliked the previous versions of IE but I really, really like IE7. To be honest I've never felt the need to switch to Firefox - use it at work and at my boyfriend's - and don't really see what all the fuss is about. And I'm getting tired of the proselytism of all you smug people :p

Sorry - you're right. I have to say that I think of them as plugins though :( Can you say brainwashing? LOL

Yep. I like the word. And many people post bullshit with no basis in any factual information. Therefore it's bullshit.

This made me laugh. :D I don't do that on this board - mostly I mind my manners (must be the generation gap) - but I'm fond of starting a sentence that way in real life myself LOL.
