Jon`s voice is still powerfull today?
What`s your opinion?
|
I think it's powerful, but in a different way.
Like on "Novacaine" his vocal is powerful, but not in the same way it is on "I Believe" for example. |
On a purely 'potency' discussion, JBJ's voice is certainly not what it was twelve years ago. He obviously struggles with high notes at times, and he'll occasionaly get nasally live (something that I firmly believe is linked to his smoking, which is why it wasn't an issue on the HAND tour). His vocal chords have seen a lot of miles.
With that said, do I prefer JBJ's voice to 90% of everything else out there? Absolutely. Does he still put out very impressive vocal performances live? Yes. There's no doubt his voice improved over the past 5 years, and even songs he struggled with on the HAND tour (Dry County and KTF) got progressively better as they kept playing them. And all the gigs for Lost Highway so far, he's sounded fantastic. So in short, I think JBJ still has a stellar voice. Is it as potent as it was during the 90's? No. But he's made up for it by being versatile. The long note at the end of MAM or the acoustic renditions of Prayer show where he can compensate for not being able to burst into falsettos. Of course, the fact he was dumb enough to start smoking is a big blotch. |
For example, i don`t like the live version of Radio Save my Life Tonight on the Have a Nice Day Tour cause don`t have the power than the box set song
|
Yesterday i saw my video: "An Evening with Bon Jovi", and whaooo, what a different voice on that show!!
|
Don't care too much for the voice as long as the songs are good. I'm not a "voiceperson", but then again, I love both Bob Dylan and Tom Waits ;)
Things changes and voices changes. So as long as there's passion and he doesn't sing out of tune, I'm satisfied. |
I also thinks he lacks the power of the voice and avoids the high notes on purpose. He's definately not my favorite singer anymore, that #1 spot goes to Jorn Lande without a doubt. So much power and feeling in his voice, its amazing.

Jons voice has certainly changed over the years, and he definitely struggled with it during Crush and Bounce tours. By HAND, IMO he was starting to get a handle on the new range of his voice and by LH he definitely has found where the power is now, and writes in a key that allows him to use it. He knows the high end is gone and now he isn't trying to force it. He seems to have figured out where he can go vocally and arranges songs to suit his voice now. He still has one of the better voices to me, I still love to hear him really sing.

As Richie Sambora put it: "Misterrr Jooon Bonn Joviiii"
...nah, his voice seems ok, no more, no less. |
I actually like Jon's voice more from These Days onwards. It's got a certain resonance now, that it didn't have when he was hitting all the squeaky high notes and sounding like minnie mouse on helium. The raw power that's on SWW/NJ isn't there, obviously, but I really like it.
He's not my favourite singer either, by the way, that honour goes to Chris Hall in The Dreaming (formerly lead singer with Stabbing Westward, he has such a haunting voice) and Amy Lee of Evanescance. But he is still the best at what he does, and what I love! KTF Andi |
