How reliable is Amazon's estimated shipping date?

I ordered a dvd from Amazon.com. It started shipping yesterday and it said the estimated arrival date is July 13th. I had chosen the expidited one and live in Canada, and that seems a little extreme. How close has it been to the date given for you guys?

I've ordered things from Hong Kong and Canada in the past (to the UK) and it has sometimes taken a couple of weeks. Sometimes I think they do just put the latest possible date so that you can't complain if it shows up later, but between countries it can take longer. Logically it shouldn't between the US and Canada (depending where in each country) but if it says that, you can probably expect it to be near enough correct.

Okay. Yah between US and canada, it shouldn't take THAT long but it makes sense to give it the latest possible date. It's not a new release by any means so we'll see.

Perhaps it's something they didn't have in stock. I ordered a CD/DVD on the 8th from CDWow and it's been showing as 'Awaiting despatch" for 2 weeks now, so I contacted them today and they said they were having a problem with their supplier or something, so there can be problems I suppose.

i think neil's spot on about the last possible date.

i bought a bunch of books in one go a few months ago.

1/3 were from california, 1/3 were from NY or jersey and 1/3 were from hong kong.

the despatch dates were between a month to 6 weeks and all of them turned up within 2 weeks....

I usually get my orders way before the last shipping date they provide. They only do that so that you don't pester them only because you think it's taking too long. It will usually reach you before that time.
