Summerfest Marcus Ampitheater Review
http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=629167
Sounds positive, and a setlist awfully similar to the O2 show. I like the idea of Any Other Day opening encores (though It's My Life should end the main setlist, like how LOAP did during the HAND tour). |
Good review, but typically lazy journalism:
"The band's ageless frontman, Jon Bon Jovi, strutted onto the stage in a sleeveless black T-shirt, jeans and cowboy boots..." YAWN! "...it wasn't long before the band reached back into its catalog - way back to its first hit single, 'She's a Little Runaway'..." GET THE SONG TITLE RIGHT! "The band ripped into an old No. 1 hit, 'Bad Medicine', and with Bon Jovi shaking his hips much to the delight of the overwhelmingly female crowd..." WHY ARE CROWD DEMOGRAPHICS SO IMPORTANT TO JOURNALISTS? "...recently rehabbed guitarist Richie Sambora..." HOW LONG ARE THEY GOING TO HOLD THIS AGAINST HIM? |
Good review.
The setlist sounds cool, and it sounds like the band, and Jon were really up for the show.. |
The Twist?? was this twist n shout, peppermint twist or the twist as in chubby checker?!
|
Twist And Shout
prayer Bad Name Lost Highway Whole Lotta Leaving Runaway BTTMB IML MAM I love This Town We Got it going on WSYCGH Sleep When Im Dead Medicne/Shout Any Other Day Saturday night Hallelujah The Last Night Wanted Twist And Shout |
this setlist is nothing but boring.Born to be my baby? You kidding me,what else is in there, let me see,how about Shout?Booooooooorrrrrrrrring.
Seems to me like jbj doesnt want to move around anymore so he keeps playing guitar on most tracks. There might be 2 or 3 songs where he actually gets to walk around. Im a massive jovi fan but to me jon looks very tired live. Hope it changes for the tour. |
Good Show
It was a very good show. If the set list would have been a little faster I would have been happier.
I think everyone was waiting for something a little faster, like, Have a Nice Day or Raise Your hands. The band was certainly into the show and I have never seen Richie so animated. He was definetly happy to be on stage. Also, they set an attendance record for the building as well. I am not a fan of hearing LOAP as an opener. There was no opening fan fare at all, everyone just strolled onto the stage. It was an -A- for effort but a b- for set list, just wanted a few more upbeat songs. CW |
Probably swapping HAND for the last night would do for me
|
I agree with whats said about making the show a little faster.
But some songs really have been played past there use by date. Ill sleep when im dead, born to be my baby, shout, captain crash(errr). Would rather have them replaced with, lay your hands on me,i believe, something for the pain or even this aint a love song.Even one wild night would be better than some of the usual this band is dishing up. It looks to me as if they are just playing the same show from the hand tour with some new songs thrown in. |
I was at summerfest last night, and I must say I was a little disappointed. For the HAND tour, I was at Madison, Milwaukee, and Chicago, and all 3 shows kicked this one's booty. But, maybe if you didn't care for HAND, you would like this style - but I prefer the high energry shows. The energy was DOWN. Jon did mention that they had recently been in Japan and that he was tired. Way less jumping around, hardly any crowd interaction, and he referred to feeling too old for this several times. He even counted from age 22 to age 45 before going into Runaway. I actually liked that though, I thought it was pretty funny. The venue, in my opinion, was terrible. I will not go to a Marcus Amp show again. I was in the yellow section, which ticket master called floor, it was not on the floor at all. The mic was so muffled that you couldn't make out what Jon was saying in between songs. Everyone around me in my section kept saying, "What'd he say?" And, the show was short it felt. They started at 8:30 and ended at 10:30. I jumped around a lot, so I was tired and ok with the length. but I heard I guy a few rows back say "2 Measely hours!" The journal did give a good review, which I agree that the show was a great show. But, having been to so many excellent Bon Jovi concerts in the past, I was a little disappointed. Or, maybe I've just become spoiled. I'll be interested in reading other people's reviews though. The venue didn't help at all in my opinion. But, I would still give the show and 8 on a scale of 1-10. Normally, I would give their shows a 24. Favorite songs of the night, were Wanted Dead or Alive, Hallelujah, Bad Medicine, Make a Memory, Hey Man I'm Alive (sorry I don't remember the names of the songs and don't want to look it up right now), and some newer songs. Least favorite was twist and shout. I"m not into the oldies songs during the shows. Oh yeah, one more thing, when the show started, it was still light out and they just walked to their instruments and started playing. Maybe I'm cheesy, but I like that Bon Jovi has crazy beginnings. Playing on a secret stage behind, cool screens lowing down... But, that is not their fault I guess becuase of the venue layout. Ok, I'm done now :) Like I said, I guess I've been spoiled in the past and now my bar is set too high. But, I'm still glad I went, and they still rocked. Best part of the night, Jon said "We'll see you in January!" (I'm happy I could make that out with the fuzzy mic situation) I hope that means that they are coming back and will be at a better venue like the Bradley center, and I'm going to go and do a Bon Jovi concert the way that I think they play best! One more thing, I thought that Richie played excellent, and he seemed high energy and doing great.
