Ever feel like nothing goes your way?!

Well, I do.
I had it all sorted out, I had the songs written and I found a dude who would record the songs at a relatively cheap price with a great sound quality. ($30 per song, none of that $20 an hour bullshit)
So I had the band, I had the lead guitarrist, the singer and the drummer, the dude who was recording us said he'd do the basslines at no extra charge because he liked the songs. So what happens first, before we even start recording the singer decides that he doesn't really want to sing so wished me luck with the project and out he went. The lead guitarrist said that because I used to be a singer in a pop/punk cover band that I could sing and play rythm at the same time, but a week later out he went because he just decided he didn't want to play anymore, even when I told him "well, just record this guitar parts for me" he wanted to charge me $50 a song to play, I said a big **** you to him and out he went (and he's my cousin).

So now all that's left is me and the drummer, well we only got through recording the first 2 songs musically speaking, the drum tracks and guitars and everything but the vocals are done. But now, I have this just incredibly ****ed up discovery that I can't for the luife of me sing this songs. They just have to ****ed up key changes and I'm not even a singer!!

The dude that's recording says that he's confident that I can sing them, but I just have to learn a bit on how to sing, because I get to nervous and **** up to much., So I just started taking singing lessons, and the teacher is really good pointing out at me what my problems are etc etc...

But it's just taking to much ****ing time to do now, so now I decided to keep recording the music, but the drummer said that he's to busy right now and he ain't gonna be in town till october. So what am I to do now!!?

Anyway I just decided to just pause up the whole thing for now.
Maybe I'll rearrange and re-record the songs so that the key changes are gone and I can sing them properly. Even If I don't have the greatest voice, they'll at least be recorded and I can create a myspace page and stick 'em on there.

Just for the record, I was trying to do something different with this project.

Instead of the main objective being having the songs to promote the band, I was trying to have a band in order to promote the songs, make it the songs to be the main reason the band is playing there. And making it common knowledge that every song the band plays on the set is for sale, in order to get the local producers in on our shows and going, (hey x band could make justice and have a minor hit out of this song).

Anyway that was the main idea, maybe a bit to naive but it was at least an idea.

What can I say other than, I know exactly how trying working with other musos can be. We've had more than our fair share of dickheads in the band, it's perseverance that gets you through though. Never give up but equally as much, never compromise and get weak musicians or get somebody in for the long haul when you know they are gonna bail on you two weeks down the line. It'll all come together eventually.

Good luck with it - hope it comes together for you soon mate. ;)

Thanks, I know I'll keep writing since that was the main objective of the project, grow as a songwriter.
The main problem with me now is that, I'm gonna play guitar, write the songs and sing them, pretty soon I'll end up becoming a solo act and not just a songwriter but I guess that's a compromise that I'm willing to make right now in order to get the songs out there.

I'll just have to work on getting better I guess.

sorry to hear that man.

other msuicians are pretty much the worst part of playing in a band hence why i'm more than content that my cover band is a 3 piece and my side project is a 2 piece and of those 1 is my brother and 1 is one of my best mates.

a friend of a friend who i don't know phoned asking me if i wanted to drum for his new band a few weeks ago and i boked at the idea of being in a room with 4 ego's that i don't know.

they coulda been cool but i'm just not prepared to take that chance :-)
