Jon and Dorothea's Hamptons Party

Now this would have been a cool party to attend:

Jon Bon Jovi's star-filled Hamptons party is a rock & roll ball of fame

A little Hamptons dinner party turned into a summit of the rock gods Saturday night.

Jon Bon Jovi and his wife, Dorothea, were celebrating nothing more than the end of summer when they invited some friends over to their East Hampton spread. But then their friends do include Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Jimmy Buffett and Pink Floyd's Roger Waters.

The surf-and-turf dinner would have been enough for a crowd that included Renee Zellwegger, Naomi Watts, Howard Stern, "Today" anchor Matt Lauer, designer Donna Karan, New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine, Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner and "Saturday Night Live" producer Lorne Michaels.

But, about 11 p.m., Bon Jovi jumped onstage to join the party band. Pretty soon, people were dancing.

Before long, McCartney joined Bon Jovi at the mike - along with Joel, Buffett and Waters.

"Billy was wailing on the keyboards," said one guest. "They performed for a good hour of rock classics. Nobody could believe it. Howard Stern was really rocking out."

Though New Jersey boy Springsteen had left before the jam, Corzine seemed pleased when Bon Jovi belted out "Who Says You Can't Go Home," the theme song of the New Jersey Tourist Board

"The governor led people on to the dance floor," said the guest.

"The whole thing was spontaneous. It was the first Hamptons party in years that was actually fun."

Can't believe Jon invited someone from Rolling Stone, considering what pricks they've been to the band over the years.

So how bad were the others?

my thoughts exactly

SamboraQueen21 09-03-2007 08:37 PM

Awesome....

Becky 09-03-2007 09:58 PM

That sounds like a blast. Hearing Jon singing with Billy Joel playing would be fantastic. The rest of the fantastic performers are icing on the cake.

rainsong 09-03-2007 11:56 PM

Most parties in the Hamptons are very detailed, themed and scripted. Spontaneous things like the host jumping on stage to jam with the party band and the guests joining in to sing and play just for fun is very against the "norm" of party giving.
A college buddy of mine is a chef in Conn. and moonlights sometimes with a caterer that does alot of Hamptons parties. he sends me menus and instruction sheets , they have things like the exact minute a certain course should arrive at table, exact lists of who gets served in what order, precise times when the entertainment should be seen/heard and not. it's crazy.

Sounds like a blast of a party, would have been a cool night to be a fly on the wall. I wonder who decided it was time to kiss and make up Jann or Jon??

And all your response above ^ is the difference between a Bruce message board and a Bon Jovi board. Everyone here is saying how cool this would be. I personally would love to hear Jon and Billy Joel together too - not to mention McCartney.

Over on Greasy Lake they are saying it is their worst nightmare to hear Jon sing with Bruce. I may be a longtime Bruce fan but I am so fed up with the Bruce is god attitude.

I prefer the Bon Jovi fans - they are much more open minded.

Yea, I'm with you Kathleen. I don't get the negativity whenever there is mention of Jon and Bruce in the same sentence as far as diehard Bruce fans. For God sakes, Bruce, went to the party, don't they get their is some relationship and mutual respect there.

It'd be nice to be a fly on the wall at this party.

As for Bruce fans, IMO they sound like they are afraid that Jon will eventually replace Bruce as NJ's all time favorite music artist. And fear causes hatred and intolerance.

bjcrazycpa 09-04-2007 12:54 AM

Looks like Jon got tired of being blonde, lol!! He's got the DA hair back.

Are you sure these pictures were taken yesterday? Maybe 10 years ago?

Anyway, both Jon and Paul look wonderful.

bjcrazycpa 09-04-2007 01:10 AM

Good question.....they were posted on backstage. I'm trying to find the site via the watermark to see if there is a date on them.

Confused about this part. Who is Jann?

RichieW2001 09-04-2007 02:25 AM

He looks way better.

Jons secret chinese brothers: Jing&Jann Bann Javvi

Jann Wenner is the publisher of Rolling Stone mag. He and Jon have not always gotten along very well, RS has never really accepted that BJ is one of the great rock bands, and Jon has made disparaging comments about the mag.

ShaSha 09-04-2007 03:31 AM

Jon probably invited Jann so that Jann might think of Bon Jovi when he chooses the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees in a couple of years.

Javier 09-04-2007 04:55 AM

Well, if the pics are recent, it's nice to see tha Jon's not to fussed about covering up his hairline.

Thanks for the clarification.

BonJovani 09-04-2007 09:15 AM

Sounds like a great party...
IN A GERIATRIC WARD!!!!

rainsong 09-04-2007 12:09 PM

Here's what I don't get about Bruce fans, they act like their god is diminishing himself if he dares to step onstage with Jon or anyone else they consider a lesser being. I find this incredibly narrow minded, especially since the man they worship has spent most of his career, mixing genres, styles, stomping on boundries and refusing to let himself get boxed into anything. It seems to me that being open minded would be the order of the day over there, but it never seems to be. I just don't get it.

I don't think etiquette would allow Jon to invite them to the party with the stipulation that they had to jam. You can't demand that your party guests work.

gazthomas 09-07-2007 01:31 AM

anyone know what they sang?

Really? so when we invite people round to dinner so long as they cook it thats wrong ?
:p

rainsong 09-07-2007 10:02 PM

Well it apparently was spontaneous, according to Bob Burger the musician whose band was playing the party. The only part that he knew about was that Jon was going to come up and sing a few with them, which Jon did to move the party from the dining area down to the dance/party area of the party. The Govenor of NJ is the one that set things off when he led the dancing with the Lindy during WSYCGO.After that according to Burger, it just took off. He said it was surreal to have them all up there. Some of the songs they did were: Long Tall Sally: McCartney did this unwarmed up in the original key spot on according to Burger. Midnight Hour, Honkey Tonk Women, and Roger Waters sang Wish You Were Here.
I would have paid big bucks to see this bunch play together.
