Mourinho Leaves Chelsea
20 September 2006
Mourinho Leaves Chelsea Chelsea have sensationally parted company with manager Jose Mourinho. The stunning news was confirmed in the early hours of Thursday following talks with leading Stamford Bridge officials. Mourinho was called to an emergency meeting late on Wednesday night with chief executive Peter Kenyon, chairman Bruce Buck and director Eugene Tenenbaum, Roman Abramovich's key aid. The self-styled 'Special One' had earlier joined the Chelsea first team at a club DVD launch in Fulham and is understood to have been very emotional when he later texted senior players with the news. Chelsea released a statement on their website at 1.45am on Thursday that read: "Chelsea Football Club and Jose Mourinho have today (Thursday) agreed to part company by mutual consent." The former Porto boss won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and two League Cups in just over three years at the club but his relationship with billionaire owner Abramovich became strained earlier this year and his departure comes just 24 hours after the club outlined their plans to win the UEFA Champions League - something Mourinho failed to do with the Blues. The final straw appeared to be Tuesday's disappointing 1-1 draw with Rosenburg, watched by less than 25,000 fans. Chelsea's first game without him is against champions Manchester United at Old Trafford live on Sky Sports on Sunday. Source: Sky Sports |
Shit. Well I didnt see that one coming!!!!

Oh well nevermind .life goes on .
Arsenal 3 Sevilla 0 :D :D |
I hear that Sheffield Wednesday will be needing a new manager shortly so there is a job out there for him!
Edit: Just for the record, I think that Chelsea are on a fast-track path to becoming another Real Madrid who sign/sack more managers than they do big-money players. The whole fiasco also stinks of the recent climate at Hearts with an arrogant, control-freak of an owner. I didn't care much for Mourinho's attitude but his abilities as a top class manager are unquestionable. |
that makes this russian-mafia-snob-club a bit less unsympathetic....
but as ukjovi said: 3-0 ;-) |
ahh well, I am sure he won't have difficulties finding a new job.
Hope to see him back soon because he simply is a character! |
The timing is the only shock for me, what with the Man U game at the weekend. He should have went in the summer like everyone thought he would.
As for his next move? I'm going to tip him to take the rest of this season as a sabbatical, then end up in the Barcelona hotseat. You read it here first... |

All other managers in European big clubs must be feeling some extra stress now that there's Mourinho on the market. :)
Who will be hired to replace him do you think? I wouldn't be that surprised if they went with Didier Deschamps. He's available and cheap (for a club like Chelsea), a former player at the club, with solid internation experience as player and manager (at a lesser extent). Not to sure he'd get along with the president though... but then who would? I'm sure he'd do a great job with that squad. Ponrauil |
