Bon Jovi vs. Creed

Reading that title, I know what some of you are thinking: "These two bands aren't even in the same league!!" I realize that, but I have some thoughts about the two that are similar...

Bon Jovi have always been one of my favorite bands of all time, and as far as newer bands go, I have been a fan of Creed's since their first album. Both of these bands have different styles, but there is something that they do share...

They both get ripped apart by the critics! What is the deal with this? Some of you are going to say "well, Creed's music isn't as good as Jovi's" and that is fine by me, because you are entitled to your opinion. But, why can't the critics just deal with the fact both of these bands have a large following? People like them, and their albums sell well.

Jovi will are close to selling over 100 million albums, and Creed have sold over 25 million in the U.S. alone on just 3 albums. If these statistics don't scream "successful" along with sold out shows, and a massive following, then what does?

Last question, what do critics actually do? I mean, what do they think they are doing with their opinion? Do they think that they can sway someone's decision from buying an album, going to see a movie, or watching a television show? Getting paid to give your thoughts....geez...that must be a nice job.

TAKE CARE!!!

critics give their opinion on something they have never tried but have a massive influence as people do take reviews for face value. if music reviews don't like certain bands then you can bet that most of their readers dislike them as well.

as Kurt Cobain sang on Serve the Servants:

self appointed judges, judge more than they have sold

sums them up nicely me thinks!!

Creed are a bunch of f*****g turds

I hate those fags, cannot stand them. They are not on the same planet on their best day as Jovi is on their worst day.

Mongoose 08-09-2002 02:06 AM

who are creed?

TheseDays 08-09-2002 02:27 AM

hey everyone,
My opinion on creed is that, if you hear one of their songs it sounds alright....but I find that I am tired of the lead singers voice, and I haven't listened too them much either!!!
When you contrast this to bjovi...I just can't get sick of Jon's voice, they are just a great band that play music the way that music should be played

Barca 08-09-2002 10:40 AM

well, i guess Creed cant be that bad, if Jon listens to their music, as he said...

Kieets 08-09-2002 10:57 AM

I also love Creed!
Especially their new cd, it's full of great songs, there's not one bad song on it.
What I also like about them, are the lyrics (especially songs 6 till 11).
Those were the first songs where I actually thought: Hey, these are great! I've never had that with BJ, at least not to the extent that I really stopped to think about them, with BJ I just listen and think, yep that means something, but usually that's it.
But apart from the lyrics, their music is also great. People who like BJ will also like Creed, maybe (okay....probably, haha) not the first two tracks, but it's just a great album after those two songs. People here should give the album a try in the store or something, it's really good and as I said after the first two songs it's not at all heavy, so it should fit with your taste.
By the way, great that jon listens to their music!!! (hope it influences his writing!!!)

I love Creed although they are not in the same league as Bon Jovi. I've got a big heart and quite a diversified musical taste. Creed are definitely one of the best "new" bands out there.

bez 08-09-2002 12:21 PM

yeah, i think creed are a top band...if you don't mind a bit of god squad rock!!

Mr Bluesman 08-09-2002 01:03 PM

They are Ok

I'm not really a fan of Creed at all, but as this new style of rock is now nu-metal, Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit and that sort of crap, there are a few bands ie. Creed and Nickelback that are doing there best to become succesful in the rock world where (at the moment) nu-metal seems to rule. I don't see Creed and Nickelback as being nu-metal.

Kieets 08-09-2002 03:02 PM

Nickelback and Creed are just rock, although Creed is heavier.

Creed's music is quite good compared to the Limp Bizkit & Co crap. It's actually one of the bands I buy CDs from. I also kinda like Scott Stapp's voice although he sounds a little too much like Eddie Vedder back when Pearl Jam made good music.
Of course they are not even comparable to Bon Jovi. ;)

 Creed's lyrics make my eyes roll. Way too over the top, however the music is great.

I agree with the Kurt Cobain comment.....self appointed judges.
