ANNOYING Advertisments

Does anyone else (especially from the UK) get those REALLY annoying 'Congratulations You Won' banners all over JoviTalk? They flash very fast and they are starting to hurt my eyes!!

Thomas Anderson 09-22-2007 04:20 PM

Nope, I use adblock in firefox, don't see any adverts :D

Keeper 09-22-2007 07:52 PM

I hate them too. And people who fall for it must be pretty stupid.

Sara 09-23-2007 12:35 AM

Yeah get them too (don't use any adblock...). Must be real great for photosensitive epileptics :?.

TheseDays2005 09-23-2007 06:21 PM

Why especcialy the UK?

yeah get them also sometimes, I've already won a new car, been on 2 holidays, received 1 million$ and am still waiting for my new HDTV

(new Internet Explorer blocks them also, btw I like the new IE more then Firefox, all the good things that Firefox has are better in the new IE)

Surely people don't ACTUALLY fall for these damn things?

Funny you should mention this. It's EXACTLY what I was thinking.... The majority of the adverts didn't really bother me, but the 'super-flashy' ones did start to hurt my eyes and give me headaches and I don't even suffer from epilepsy.

Reason being, because different territories get different adverts, therefore I was inquiring to see if other UK users got the same ones that I did. :)

Thanks to Neil, I no longer see these :D

Ok, think I get that ad as long as there are ads on this board.

Also for some reason at one minute I am the 10.000th visitor and 10 minutes later I'm suddenly the 1 million visitor. I'm suprised the server never gets overheated by that many visitors in 10 minutes.

That's quite possibly the most amusing thing I have seen you write on this board :)

Keeper 09-23-2007 09:35 PM

I do remember someone saying in all honesty that they had got this thing about being the 1,000,000 visitor or something. Really. That's when I realised they were doing the trick with some people.

How do you block these things on the new IE?! Would love to know.

Keeper 09-23-2007 09:38 PM

Ah, here it is:

IE 7 has a pop-up blocker wich seems to work as good as firefox one.

Javier 09-24-2007 05:54 AM

The other day I got an add that I could shoot ducks!! it was fun.

Oh, I know and use that, of course. But these flashing ads aren't pop-ups - they're embedded on the page.
