Firearm legislation reform in the European Union
An independent study on firearm legislation in Austria.
http://bjp.rcpsych.org/cgi/content/abstract/191/3/253 Conclusions Our findings provide evidence that the introduction of restrictive firearmlegislation effectively reduced the rates of firearm suicide and homicide. The decline in firearm-related deaths seems to have been mediated by the legal restriction of firearm availability. Restrictive firearm legislation should be an integral part of national suicide prevention programmes in countries with high firearm suicide rates. (Emphasis mine.) Is anyone really surprised? Ice |
I could've told you that. Ban planes and you'll have far fewer plane crashes. It'd be interesting to see what the OVERALL crime and suicide rates did.
Our CDC performed a similar study over here (during the liberal Clinton adminstration no less, IIRC) and couldn't find a link between gun laws and overall crime rates. Oh well. Different strokes for different folks. Adrian |
