Spyware

I've been using Ad Adware to get rid of the spyware , although its ok my PC still runs slow.I down loaded STOPzilla yesterday and it found 150 infections .For it to work though i had to pay for it . my question is , is it worth it? I mean if i'm going to buy a anti spyware programe is there one better?

I've use AdAware and Spybot in the past, both free, and both seemed ok.

yeah thats the point they work OK but STOPzilla found alot more .Is it just a trick to get me to buy it or is there really 150 infections that Ad Adware cant see?

Well what were the infections? I know that if you don't look at the details, SpyBot can make you think you've found a lot, but most of them are just tracking cookies and things.

my experience with AdAware was not the best one. What I used and seemed to wok quite nice was something called Spyware Doctor, for that one you have to pay as well. However, none really managed to clean up everything. Spyware is like STDs. once you get them, they'll be there and prevention is the best combat. In the worst case, just format your hard drive. That should definitely solve the problem.

I use AVG which is free and dont have any problems.

AVG is an anti-virus program Dawn. Spyware is a different problem to viruses.

They all come in different forms really, but the difference is that a virus is something which generally targets and attacks your computer in some way, and spyware monitors certain actions and reports on them (I think)

AVG Anti-Spyware also exists however - and that's what I'd recommend. I spend ages cleaning up HDs I have to examine at work, in case of hidden infections etc, and AVG find almost all the ones I can find manually, so it's very good.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware Free here

If you really care, you can learn to trawl the registry and other places for spyware - but for a normal user AVG and probably Ad-Aware or Spybot Search & Destroy are more than sufficient.

Make sure you have Anti-Virus (I'd pay for McAfee, or AVG free) and a firewall too.
