Best Album... By Math!
So, I decided to really figure out what my favorite albums are by using the individual one to five star rating for every song found in the WMP/iTunes music libraries. I think this is the only way I can truly know what I really think about the album...
I rated each song from one to five stars, based on how I truly feel about that song. Then I took the scores and added them up and divided the total by the number of tracks on the album. This is how I rated the songs... 5star - Classic that you never get sick of, when you think of the album you think of this song(s) 4star - Enjoyable song that makes the album flow, should be a single 3star - You can handle it but occasionally gets skipped, maybe a good song that you easily get sick of 2star - Only plays in it's entirety when you are listening to the album in the background, otherwise it's usually skipped 1star - You always take time to go into the player and skip this one, no matter what. Even after owning the album for a while, the play-count on your player still says 0 on this one. To me this is as personal as it gets. I did this on every album except the solo ones and any compilations (CR, TLFR, Live, Box Set). The scores surprised me but were not too far off from what I've always considered to be my favorite albums... Also, I only included the US release tracks and no bonus ones (like on Crush and Bounce). So here is what I got. BJ - 3.33 7800 - 3.33 SWW - 4.41 NJ - 4.33 KTF - 4.16 TD - 4.91 Crush - 3.33 Bounce - 3.33 HAND - 3.46 LH - 3.25 You might think it's not fair to do it this way cause BJ has 9 tracks while an album like HAND has 13, but I think it's OK, the band shouldn't have used so many fillers... And I broke the ties based on how many 5 star, then 4 star tracks each album has. I'm gonna change my signature accordingly! |
Following this method I get
KTF New Jersey Bounce These Days HAND SWW Lost Highway Crush 7800 Bon Jovi :silly:  |
Bon Jovi~3 (2 Five Star Songs)
7800* Farenheit~3 (2 Five Star Songs) Slippery When Wet~4.1 (6 Five Star Songs) New Jersey~4.83 (11 Five Star Songs) Keep The Faith~4.41 (9 Five Star Songs) These Days~4.08 (6 Five Star Songs) Crush~4.41 (9 Five Star Songs) Bounce~3.75 (6 Five Star Songs) Have A Nice Day~4.16 (8 Five Star Songs) Lost Highway~4.33 (7 Five Star Songs) |
I think this is actually exactly what I always say..
New Jersey - 4.1 Slippery When Wet - 4.1 Keep the Faith - 3.4 These Days - 3.4 Have A Nice Day - 3.2 7800° Fahrenheit - 3.0 Crush - 2.8 Bon Jovi - 2.7 Lost Highway - 2.7 Bounce - 2.6 |
This actually was very acurate, I must say.
The only difference seems to be that my math gave TD a personal edge over Slippery, which isn't true. I think the reason for that is that I gave Social Disease only one star. In fact that, and the TLFR RAPE of Livin' On A Prayer, are the only BJ songs that I can't stand. |

Just kidding. Couple of these albums did have a tie which i broke mathematically, like which album has more 4 and 5 star songs. This gave the edge to 7800 over BJ but i still personally like the 1st album better. The tie between Crush and Bounce, overall I pick Crush but Bounce id just a better record overall cause there's no "She's a Mystery", "Save the World" and "I got the Girl". |
Funny you should say that.
The debut and 7800* were tied for me, and both had the same amount of 5 star songs (2 each) |
Hey Myguitar, I hope you don't mind me asking since this is your thread, but I was wondering if you (or anyone else who wouldn't mind) could post how many per album, and which Jovi songs you rank as 5 star?
I'm counting out mine now. |
I thought I was the nerd on this board LOL. I know exactly which albums rate in what order (without all the math) in my case.
