STBI, Cologne 2001, Richie's Effect on the Riff

Hi

Does anybody know how Richie acheives that effect when he plays the G, F#, D........E, D, A, B...A.....riff? (Forget the live drop down for now). It sounds like a picked note but then turns into what sounds like a pinched harmonic. Is it just well controlled feedback?

i aint got a clue how its done, but i dont like that sound. Much prefer it as the album and the Yokoham 96 bootleg.

Mp3? Youtube link? Not all of us have an extensive bootleg archive...

Without having heard it, my guess is phaser or flanger.
