Jon VS Richie (Blaze VS Stranger)
Ok, because these were both solo albums, and they were both around 1990, lets compare them song for song.
Well, I think I compared them equally... (and i took out "You Really Got me Now") 1.Billy Get Your Guns VS Rosie 2.Miracle VS Mr. Bluesman 3.Blaze of Glory VS Stranger in this Town 4.Blood Money VS Church of Desire 5.Sante Fe VS Ballad of Youth 6.Justice in the Barrel VS Father Time 7.Never Say Die VS River of Love 8.Bang a Drum VS One Light Burning 9.Dyin' Ain't Much of a Livin' VS The Answer 10.Guano City VS Rest in Peace here are my votes: 1 Rosie 2 Miracle 3 Blaze 4 Church 5 Sante Fe 6 Father Time (tough choice) 7 Never Say Die 8 One Light 9 Dyin' 10 Rest in Peace and was this a good or bad idea? |
Aloha !
Stranger In This Town. Although Jon's solo album has it's moments (Billy Get Your Guns, Miracle, Santa Fe and Blaze Of Glory) it doesn't really sound like a complete album like Stranger In This Town does. It has no real flow, unlike Stranger In This Town, which is a complete album from start to finish. Plus it features better guitar work and stunning vocals in every song and it has Clapton on it, which is no competition to Jeff Beck. :) The way you compared the tracks to eachother doesn't really make sense though. Sure, there'll follow a few replies in which people tell you they will prefer Billy Get Your Guns over Rosie or the other way around, but in the end it doesn't make sense at all. So yes, Stranger In This Town is the better one for me. Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |
Oh no, sorry, Young Guns II is a far, far better album than Stranger for me. Seb, I can't understand why you don't think it sounds like a complete album - it carries on the full theme simply because it is a movie soundtrack. It really flows very well to me, much more so than Stranger, especially as Stranger has the terrible, terrible Rosie smack in the middle which just doesn't fit in with anything else on the album (a bad Bon Jovi track anyway - why Richie included it, I'll never know)
Stranger has some absolutely stunning songs: One Light Burning, The Answer and Father Time, but I can list more from YGII - Blaze Of Glory, Santa Fe, Dying Ain't Much Of A Living, Never Say Die, Justice In A Barrel and Miracle. Lyrically, it's a far better album than Stranger, although yeah, of course Stranger has the better guitar work - it's a guitar players album. Maybe it's just because I prefer Jon's voice over Richie's (Jon's a rock singer, Richie's not) but Jon's album has a kick that Stranger just doesn't deliver on. On a side note I was listening to Stranger the other day actually, and River Of Love sounds so much like Woman In Love on KTF...lol...Jon must've liked that one. And it's not just the fact that they both have Love in the chorus and the title. |
No contest - Young Guns II. I've never been a huge fan of Stranger (blasphemy, I know).
I just wish the morons at Mercury would have remastered that album. Jon's voice sounds so money on it. |
Gotta agree with Seb. I would choose Stranger over Young Guns any day. Although danfan was right on with Jon's voice.

No contest:
Stranger blows 'Guns away, |
theyre both kickass if you ask me! Ive actually gotta say i like Stranger more, as an album anyway. Guns has great songs, with a few better than others, but Stranger's songs are ALL awesome (w/ the exception of River Of Love. (The whole band's b-side was better.)
And what did you say about Rosie, crashed? Thats my second favorite song off Stranger! |
I find it hard to say this as I am much more a fan of Richie than Jon but I'd go with Blaze Of Glory. Stranger is possibly more consistent (Can't stand River Of Love though) but Blaze Of Glory, Santa Fe, Never Say Die and Justice In The Barrell all outclass any song on Stranger In This Town except maybe Father Time so just for the number of all out classic songs I'd go with Blaze. Strange really as at one time SITT was my favourite album of all time. Both excellent albums!
If we talk about second solo albums though Undiscovered Soul pisses all over Destination Anywhere which is possibly the worst thing Jon has ever released including TLFR. |

Stranger only just though. Young Guns has some fantastic songs on it, Santa Fe, Dying Ain't Much of a Livin, Blood Money but Stranger has a better flow to it.
