Acoustic vs TLFR - would you change your mind?

Just had a curious thought watching some old footage; if TLFR hadn't have been released but songs like Bed of Roses, Its My Life etc were played in its style as live alternates, would you still dislike them?

For example, Jovi pulled out an excellent piano ballad version of Die For You a while back which I personally love. Would you still give some of the TLFR versions flack if they were only used live? Would you appreciate some of them more?

Interesting question. But, no.

LOL. That's what I thought.

But take a song like Its My Life. I actually don't mind the piano version ... if they were to play that version during an unplugged show, I think I would actually try and hunt it down for my random ipod collection.

I was lucky enough to be in Kiel back in 2003 where they played half of the show acoustic and it was great. I like the acoustic versions, acoustic versions still can be up tempo and rock. TLFR is just boring. You can't compare acoustic to TLFR. Playing TLFR versions live ruins every concert for me and I was glad that they only played TLFR versions 2 times out of my 9 shows during the HAND-tour, even though 2 times is still 2 times too often.

Aloha !

Obviously not. It'd be merely like what the **** is this?

I just watched Kiel for the first time, and it really was a spectaculair show. Even if the acoustic set from Kiel would've been released as a single CD it would've been better than This Left Feels Right.

The fact that a lot of TLFR is acoustic isn't what I dislike about it. There are acoustic versions of Bed of Rose out there that I think are beautiful. I still prefer the original version, but I could be very happy with the "original acoustic" version if they could still pull that off. On the other hand, the TLFR BoR makes me want to gag. If that's the only way they can do it live, I'd rather they let the song die in peace.

What I've always asked myself is why do I like the revised version of Runaway so much while I hate most of TLFR? Isn't it just as much of a departure from the original? Anyone else feel the same way?

I like a lot of TLFR, and I love some of the versions - but as far as I'm concerned, they should play them properly or not at all.

BoR is a dull song even in it's full electric version IMO, I wish they'd put it to bed.

The version of Runaway you mentioned was/is shite!!

I'm one of the few who actually likes TLFR a lot so....there are certain songs that aren't my favorite in any version such as BOR.

I love acoustic Bon Jovi, but I really dislike 11 of the 12 TLFR songs.
I wish they'd release a real damn acoustic album.
Oddly enough though, I really really like the version of It's My Life on TLFR.

TLFR in general was probably a bit of a failed experiment, as no one seemed to really like it, it wasn't a proper acoustic album but was too rushed to be properly experimental.

That said, I think that a number of the songs are pretty good, each of them offer at least something of interest, and none of them detract from my appreciation of the original songs at all

I saw Always TLFR performed at Milton Keynes 2006 and actually thought it worked quite well in a live setting. Sure, I would have preferred the full electric version, but if it was a choice between getting no version of Always or the TLFR version, the TLFR version wins

Bed Of Roses is a bit different though, because I don't think the new arrangement of that is sufficiently interesting to justify it ... whereas the new version of Always is IMO.

With Runaway (and I can only base this off of the performance on the Crush tour DVD), it was cool because it was a new idea, it was the song that obviously they'd been playing more or less constantly since the very beginning of their career, and probably most of all because it was a one off. I'm not sure it would have worked quite as well with any other song in the entire Jovi catalogue

Here's a slightly different question though: if they were to do different arrangements of rarities and semi-rarities like Die For You, Wild Is The Wind, Stick To Your Guns etc., would that be acceptable?
