Youngstown & Murder Incorporated, I like that. How do they do Youngstown these days. Electric? Acoutsic?
Too much Magic songs. Big disappointment that Magic album.

Youngstown was full band electric and awesome. I hadn't heard it since 2000 I don't think. And the combo with Murder was not lost on the Giants crowd.

As for Magic - only 6 songs out of 30 isn't bad considering that it is the Magic tour.

Mongoose 07-28-2008 11:38 PM

I quite like Magic myself.

And Youngstown / Murder inc. for the win!

hometownboy 07-29-2008 12:09 AM

i quite like magic aswell! i cant wait to see tonights setlist

asok80 07-29-2008 12:15 AM

6 songs from Magic is more than we got in Gothenburg. I like the album even though a few tracks don't come across too well live unfortunately. Long walk home and Last to die are 2 of my favourites.

Better late then never, here's my review:

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band~Giants Stadium~7/27/08

****ing wild day yesterday. After buying over $120 worth of food, plus a $30 grill (for bothe the Springsteen show, and the Foo Fighters on Tuesday), we got to Giants Stadium at about 2:30. Of course from the moment we got their, it was clearly evident that the skies were about to open. We were able to catch a bit of the soundcheck, but not much, but that ended as the weather got continuously worse. So basically, we're siting there in this wild wind trying to start a charcoal grill. Needless to say, that didn't work. About 20 minutes after we got there the rain really started, so we holed up in the car. We knew we weren't going to let the food go to waste, so we decided to go out and try to cook in the rain. Thankfully something somewhere was smiling on us, as the rain actually stopped. With the aid of some burning napkins, we were able to get the grill going and spent the rest of the afternoon hanging out, eating, and listening to Springsteen tunes. Great time had by all, if I do so say so myself. Now, onto the show itself. Really fast though, before I discuss the performance, I need to write about the people sitting around us. It was like we were in the ****ing Twlilight Zone. The two guys in front of us smoked so much pot it's not even funny. They were taking huge hits from a pipe almost every song, and were TOTALLY out of it half way through the show. In addition to that, the guy behind me started caressing my hair. I turned and asked him "What the **** are you doing" and he responded by drunkenly telling me that I was so lucky to have hair. I found out afterwards that he said the same thing to Greg. Now, the cherry on top is that next to me on my left (I was fourth in our group, so Greg, Kat, and Teresa were sitting to my right) there was a *ahem* oversized gentleman. Now, I myself would never profess to be in good shape, but this guy had to be about 400 pounds. Now, he was standing and dancing the whole show, which is perfectly in his right as a paid concert goer. However, as he became more intoxicated, he began knocking into me. A LOT. It got to the point were he almost knocked me over three times. Now I'm I HUGE proponent of enjoying one's self at a concert, but this guy way over the top. He ended up leaving before the end of the main set.
Now, after all that, lets talk about the show:

July 27, 2008
East Rutherford, New Jersey
Giants Stadium

Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out
Radio Nowhere
Lonesome Day
Adam Raised A Cain
Spirit In The Night
Summertime Blues
Brilliant Disguise
Atlantic City
Growin' Up
Janey Don't You Lose Heart
I'll Work For Your Love
Youngstown
Murder Incorporated
The Promised Land
Livin' In The Future
Mary's Place
Working On The Highway
Tunnel Of Love
The Rising
Last To Die
Long Walk Home
Badlands

Girls In Their Summer Clothes
Jungleland
Born To Run
Bobby Jean
Dancing In The Dark
American Land
Rosalita

Springsteen blew me away at the Garden in October, but I'd venture to say that last night was even better, due to the set. I was quite happy that the set was mainly old material, with only 6 songs out of 30 being of off Magic. Starting with one of my favorite Bruce songs in 10th Avenue Freezeout was a huge plus. There were so many great songs that I hadn't heard last time ( 10th, Youngstown, Brilliant Disguise, Murder Inc., Adam Raised a Cain, Spirt in The Night) Springsteen collecting signs and banners from the crowd was quite cool, and I was happy to hear Growing Up. And of course, I got Mary's Place and an extended Springsteen rap in it, so I was over the moon at that point as Mary's is one of all-time favorite Bruce songs. Hearing Jungleland (my absolute favorite Bruce song) a second time was tremendous. Born To Run was great, it was great to hear two Born In The USA tracks back to back in Bobby Jean and Dancing in The Dark. American Land was fun, but the definite highlight was hear Rosalita. Whoo, what a ****ing song, and what a great show. Bruce moved around a lot more this show, and the band in general seemed a bit looser than in the fall. In any case, it was a great show. I could bemoan the absence of several songs (AGAIN NO THUNDER ROAD) but, the show more than lived up to it. Now, onto Foo Fighters tomorrow.

Rob 07-29-2008 01:34 AM

He's a great performer. In some ways I missed Jungleland and Thunder Road when he came to Manchester as they are two of my all time favourate Bruce songs, but I can't complain. In fact it doesn't matter what he plays because he has so much good material and to see him perform it live was out of this world. If I'm ever in the same city as that man again then I'll do everything I can to go and see him.

asok80 07-29-2008 08:13 AM

I bet Kathleen is pretty happy right now as they played Drive All Night yesterday! :-)

Kathleen 07-29-2008 08:32 AM

Kathleen is absolutely over the moon right now :D - night 2 was better than night 1 - and that's hard to do after a night like last night. But many rarities were played - some I've never heard live like Held Up Without a Gun.

1. Out in the street
2. Radio nowhere
3. No surrender
4. Two hearts
5. Promised land
6. Hungry heart
7. Summertime Blues
8. Tunnel of love
9. Held up without a gun <----Holy crap - never expected that either
10. Saint in the City
11. Sherry Darling (Hey Hey Hey)
12. Sunny day
13. Because the night
14. She's the one
15. Livin in the future
16. Mary's place
17. Drive all night !!!!!!
18. The Rising
19. Last to die
20. Long walk home
21. Badlands
22. Happy Birthday to Patty
23. Girls in their summer clothes
24. Thunder road :D
25. Detroit medley
26. Born to run
27. Glory days
28. American land
29. Twist and shout with Jesse Malin guesting

All the Jovi people hate ending with Twist and Shout and the Bruce crowd absolutely loves it LOL.

Kev 07-29-2008 08:38 AM

Another nice one for you Kathleen. Worth the money huh?!?! ;) :D How long was tonights show?

Kev 07-29-2008 08:53 AM

And theres nothing wrong with ending a show with Twist and Shout, just don't end the ****ing tour with it!

Crushgen24/88 07-29-2008 09:19 AM

Looks like tonight was one hell of a show as well..
Should have gone to more than one show, but I have too many other things going on this week (Foo Fighter's Tuesday, Concert/Book signing Friday, Baseball game Saturday)
Hoping those rumored Garden dates come through in the fall.

asok80 07-29-2008 01:44 PM

Anyway they end it will be brilliant.

It might have been 5 minutes shorter than the previous night - I haven't even had time to sort my files out. There are several torrents up on dime from the past 2 nights. Paul and I took the leap and went from 16/44 files to 24/96 recording. We had to hack the Axim to get it to accept a 16 G SD card - but once we did that we downloaded some new software and bingo - very high quality files. The difference in sound is enormous - but so is the file size.

Only one more on Thursday :(

asok80 07-30-2008 10:32 AM

That sounds great Kathleen! I've listened to Drive all night and can't believe that
people are talking!!! right through this beautiful song. Disgrace.

Oh - it was a huge beer and bathroom break (just like Dry County :( ). I couldn't believe it either. People sat down or left their seats. This drives me crazy. My husband and I just snuggled up and listened and tried to absorb it through our skin LOL. Certainly we enjoyed it as did many other die hards but the vast majority of the concert goers were clueless.

asok80 07-30-2008 09:19 PM

Can't understand this beer and bathroom break during a show. I would never even consider it during any show at all. One reason might be that I don't drink beer before a show to avoid these bathroom breaks. :-)

Me neither - and anyone that knows me knows that I am not agaist drinking :) But when I am at a live show of one of my long time loved bands I won't miss 1 minute of the concert for anything - especially a bathroom break LOL. I leave my place or my seat for NOTHING once the concert starts.

I can put on CDs and drink in my living room all I want LOL - but at a concert I am there for the LIVE MUSIC.

Considering that my husband and I have traded off taping duties recently, it becomes obvious that you don't leave the concert for any reason if you are taping either.

McNabb 07-30-2008 11:38 PM

How's that new Midgets Stadium coming along? What is up with the rainbow colors??

It's up - right next to the old one still in use. It's just a skeleton though - got a ways to go before it's finished.

Rainbow colors???? Can't say as I saw any.

Kathleen 08-01-2008 09:00 AM

Show ended at 12:50 tonight. Dear god - this man just doesn't quit. The intensity of this band and the crowd tonight was unbelievable. This rates up there with some of the best Bruce shows ever.

1. Summertime Blues
2. 10th Avenue Freezeout
3. Radio Nowhere
4. Prove It All Night
5. Two Hearts
6. The Promised Land
7. Spirit in the Night
8. Light of Day
9. Brilliant Disguise
10. Pretty Flamingo (with a great intro by Bruce about Patty and him)
11. Blinded by the Light
12. Cadillac Ranch
13. Candy's Room
14. Night
15. Because the Night
16. She's the One
17. Livin' in the Future
18. Mary's Place
19. Incident on 57th Street <-----This was just gorgeous
20. The Rising
21. Last to Die
22. Long Walk Home
23. Badlands

24. Jungleland
25. Born to Run
26. Bobby Jean
27. Dancing in the Dark
28. American Land
29. JERSEY GIRL :)
30. Rosalita

Nothing beats Bruce in Jersey but I'm heading to Boston on Saturday.

Crushgen24/88 08-01-2008 09:04 AM

Looks like a great set AGAIN tonight.
Still, I'm really surprised there was no "Sandy..." or tribute to Danny at any of the shows.

This was an over the top show. I got chills several times during the evening - and it was hot as hell out.

I thought there would be something about Danny at one of the shows also but they did quite a few tributes at shows right after he died and maybe they just didn't want to revisit it.

I guess, I just thought being back in Jersey/the Northeast for the first time...
Anyway, I WISH I could've gone to at least one of these other two shows, but Sunday was AMAZING, and with everything that happened to me this week, it's probably for the best.

hometownboy 08-02-2008 12:43 AM

these three setlists really have been amazing , i'd love to hear two hearts live! un jealous of these sets you witnessed kathleen :p

eheaps 08-02-2008 07:59 AM

Got to see Sunday and Thursday, they were both amazing!! Kinda wished I got to go Monday too, though. Anyway, I put up a couple reviews on my blog. www.herestorock.blogspot.com Also some videos from the shows "Murder Incorporated" from Sunday and then "Jersey Girl" from last night!!! Check it out!!

bj54 08-03-2008 05:08 AM

I heard all day on Thurs. about the traffic tie up at Giants. That's what held up the show so late, right? People couldn't exit off the turnpike at Giants cause of a gas tanker that turned over. What a huge mess all day! Bruce gave them a great show for all their suffering.:D

Kathleen 08-04-2008 08:49 PM

I just thought I'd post the recap of songs from the 3 Giants shows here (stolen from Greasy Lake):
Why is it that we don't get this variety from Bon Jovi?

Bruce played 53 Songs over 3 Nites at Giants Stadium - 29 Once,
13 Twice and 11 All 3 Nites. A Total of 88 Songs.

29 Songs played at 1 Show Only:

Lonesome Day, Adam Raised a Cain, Atlantic City, Growin' Up,
Janey Don't You Lose Heart, I'll Work for Your Love, Youngstown,

It's Hard to Be a Saint in the City, Sherry Darling,
Waitin' on a Sunny Day, Drive All Night, Thunder Road,
Detroit Medley, Glory Days, Twist and Shout

Prove It All Night, Light of Day, Pretty Flamingo, Blinded by the Light,
Cadillac Ranch, Candy's Room, Night, Incident on 57th Street,
Jersey Girl,

13 Songs played at 2 Shows:

Emil 08-04-2008 08:58 PM

I'm with you, Kathleen. But Bruce does play in his own league, at least when it comes to setlist variety. Hopefully it'll inspire Jon to the same. The Lost Highway tour is a step in the right direction.

So, you went to Boston as well? Then you got to hear I'm Goin' Down. I ****ing adore that song.

I love it too and I was shocked to hear it - I'm so pleased I made the trip to Boston twice in one month LOL.

Paul and I were so depressed after the last night at Giants to think that we would never hear the E Street Band live again. That SOUND that they make is something that I will miss for a long time. So we found two tickets on Friday and jumped in the car Saturday morning. We drove through rain of biblical proportions all the way up to Boston. I was resigned to a soaking wet concert but it cleared up for the music fortunately.

So now we are reluctantly facing reality - is life as we have known it for 30 years with the E Street Band over? Bruce will continue making music I'm sure - but it won't sound like the E Street Band :(

I saw the Boss and the E Street Band at Giant's Stadium on the last night and it certainly was magical. Jersey Girl was a huge highlight and well the whole night was just special. I'm glad you had a blast at Boston as well Kathleen! I am sure the concert was amazing, but there is really nothing like the Boss in Jersey. Bruce and Bon Jovi are two of my favs really and they are two of the best bands in the world.

Rock on,

Jason F.

I can relate Kathleen, you should have seen the weather at Yankee Stadium saturday.
Luckily it cleared up for all the Old Timer's Day festivities.
On to Bruce, you really think this is the last tour with the band?

I don't. I heard they will be touring next year. Not sure if it is the truth, but it is something to look forward to if they do!

Even if they tour next year - (and I don't think they will) - it won't be the same.

Danny was missed (at least by me) for these shows. The Jersey shore carousel was pretty much gone from the music - that was Danny.
Max is moving to LA with the Conan show.
Clarence is 66 (born January 11, 1942) - do you really think he will do another tour?

My heart is very heavy the past few days thinking that this is it. If it isn't - no one will be happier than I - but I think it's stretching credibility to assume that there will be another tour.

superkid 08-05-2008 05:32 AM

I caught all 3 giants stadium shows and i will also be seeing him in Kansas City. For me, Bruce is just as good as Bon Jovi. It depends what mood i'm in.

Well, they are all up there in age. The thing is though that they all sound so amazing and I would hope that there would be another tour in the midst. Who knows, we'll have to wait and see though.

My uncle is one of the biggest Boss fans in the world, he never misses a show near here and he has gone away to see them too so I will check with him and see what he thinks.

Regards,

Jason F.
