Looks like I'm getting Oasis' greatest hits for Christmas. :)
|
Aloha !
I've just seen them for the first time this tour, here's a short review: The support act was a joke really, no matter how hard they tried. They're three 20 (?) year old kids playing the same song for about 12 times I think. There wasn't a single time I could understand what he was singing or saying because of their sound system being so rubbish. Their drummer was good though, fancy little fills here and there, but most of it was just more of the same. When Oasis came on the house was packed, sold out show, about 7.000 people were there I think. For the first time ever I saw Liam coming on smiling, Noel looked a bit like he didn't want to be there though. Right from the first song the crowd was very into it, it was a pretty good crowd to be honest and Liam enjoyed it a lot, don't think he expected it to be that good. After a million times of telling the sound crew to turn up or turn down his mic I've never been able to hear Liam because of either his mic being so low in the mix or the crowd being so deafening. I was standing 5th row or something, if anyone saw 2 guys of 6 feet standing there, that was us. I didn't bring any Bon Jovi banner with me this time, by the time I would've managed to get it inside it would've been soaking wet because of the terrible weather. First time I could hear Liam it was every now and then during Songbird, can't really comment on what his voice sounded like, I've never heard it. Not even when he spoke. I did see him pulling away from the mic very often like usual and what I also noted was that he was swearing a lot in between some difficult lines. Looked a bit odd to be honest. The set: The first 4 songs are brilliant. It's what Oasis should sound like. In attack force, full on. To Be Where There's Life is also a good live song, but Waiting For The Rapture isn't. It just doesn't work live, as do more songs in the set. Ain't Got Nothing, The Meaning Of Soul and Falling Down are all pretty boring live. One of the highlights of the set was obviously when Noel started telling the band members that something was up with his throat and said he needed an acoustic guitar which resulted in Half The World Away. Half The World Away is a b-side from 1995 and is most of the time only done when Noel's doing promo shows for the radio or stuff like that. Getting the full band version was very, very rare. It made this show the first show they actually mixed it up though I'm pretty sure The Importance Of Being Idle will return the next show. Supersonic's played too slow, should be played like it was done on the Be Here Now and SOTSOG tours back in 1998/2000. The encore is pretty bad, the set needed more stompers like Morning Glory, which was obviously again a highlight of the show. I've never been a fan of I Am The Walrus but I have to say the ending of it is pretty immense with all the guitar and distortion noises over it. Overall I must say that this set is better than the one on the 2005/2006 tour, but it just needs more songs like Morning Glory, Shock, Lyla and songs like that. If the band would've played a rocker like Some Might Say instead of Champagne Supernova it'd been a much better set. With the set they're doing now they come on strong but end a bit slow. The full set: 01. Rock N Roll Star 02. Lyla 03. The Shock Of The Lightning 04. Cigarettes And Alcohol 05. The Meaning Of Soul 06. To Be Where There's Life 07. Waiting For The Rapture 08. The Masterplan 09. Songbird 10. Slide Away 11. Morning Glory 12. Ain't Got Nothing 13. Half The World Away 14. I'm Outta Time 15. Wonderwall 16. Supersonic Encore: 17. Don't Look Back In Anger (Acoustic) 18. Falling Down 19. Champagne Supernova 20. I Am The Walrus Like with my review for Mark Knopfler I'll compare the Oasis set with Bon Jovi songs to give you an idea of what the set is like. I'll take the Have A Nice Day Tour for example, meaning that I'm replacing the new Oasis songs with songs from Have A Nice Day. 1. Let It Rock 2. It's My Life 3. Have A Nice Day 4. Livin' On A Prayer 5. Just Older 6. Last Man Standing 7. Story Of My Life 8. The Radio Saved My Life Tonight 9. Hook Me Up 10. Never Say Goodbye 11. Born To Be My Baby 12. Last Cigarette 13. Good Guys Don't Always Wear White 14. Welcome To Wherever You Are 15. Always 16. Runaway 17. I'll Be There For You (acoustic) 18. Novocaine 19. Wanted Dead Or Alive 20. Rockin' In The Free World I haven't filmed anything but my brother made a few pictures, here they are: http://www.bonjovi-archives.com/Brilliantpics/03.jpg http://www.bonjovi-archives.com/Brilliantpics/05.jpg http://www.bonjovi-archives.com/Brilliantpics/06.jpg http://www.bonjovi-archives.com/Brilliantpics/07.jpg http://www.bonjovi-archives.com/Brilliantpics/08.jpg After reading a few reports of the show and seeing the reactions on youtube it became clear that Liam sang better in Brussels than he did during the entire leg of the North American tour, it's just a shame I've never heard it. And with this all being said, it was a solid show. 7/10 Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |
The show was nice, as well as the pictures I took.
Only Falling Down in the Encore was bad in my opinion. I salute you, Thunderstrucker |
I don't see how you compared Always and Wonderwall.... but whatever..... I'm just starting to like Oasis due to the fact of Ferret....

Masterplan - Awesome song. Radio Saved My Life Tonight - Not so awesome song. I guess I'd compare it more to something like These Days, though I suppose The Masterplan's played more. So...uhm...Bed of Roses or LYHOM or something? But hey, wtf do I know about Oasis? |
Aloha !

Anyway, I was happy with Half The World Away. It's been an important song for me, played it on guitar many times and played it once for one of my ex girlfriends when she first stayed for the night at my place. :) Right, I'm off to Thierry to go to Dusseldorf. Let's hope for another change in the set. Noel's got a cold so fingers crossed. Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but Phil Collins hasn't written that much in the past 20 years has he? Or maybe he has but it was just MOR shite about as far away as Genesis' great early prog as is possible. Then again, only heard the odd tune. Quote:
EDIT: Oli, found you some quotes! "People ****ing hate cunts like Phil Collins, and if they don't — they ****ing should" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Why did he sell so many records in the '80s? I mean, ****ing hell" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Vote Labour. If you don't and the Tories get in, Phil Collins is threatening to come back from Switzerland and live here — and none of us want that." (on the 2005 General election) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "You can't kill the anti-Christ" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ""Phil Collins knows he can't say anything about me because I'm the ****ing bollocks and that's the thing that does his head in, and the fact that he's bald." Still not as bad as what he says about some other people. |
Quote:
Noel just wishes he was Phil Collins...well no one wants to be bald I guess so Noel's just envious of the man's writing. Anywaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, I've said my bit now, this ain't a thread for me to speak in :p EDIT: Just read those Noel insults. Yup, definatly jealousy. |

By the way: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Noel_Gallagher You can't deny Noel does a good quote. |
Great show yesterday - since it was postphoned. :(.
|
Yeah read about that, too bad, but better a postponed show than a show with a sick Noel and Liam not on top form.

i see what you mean about Half The World away, it's one of my favourites oasis songs. |
Well Seb and me went to see Oasis yesterday. Since the show was cancelled the last time.
THEY ARE THE WORST ACT I'VE EVER SEEN LIVE. CRAPPERDECRAPCRAP! |

This show was brilliant. From start to finish, Alter Bridge-boy. After I've fixed mixing the bootleg I'll post a review. :) Edit: A sample of the show. First person is me, second person is Thierry. http://www.bonjovi-archives.com/sample.mp3 1. Show is just good! 2. Yeah, it's just that the songs are all rubbish. This short conversation shows pretty much what the evening was like for the both of us. :D Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |

However since I respect Seb's opinion - mostly :D - I started listening to some of their studio stuff a while ago. I have come to enjoy a lot of it since it is a very familiar pop format to me (nothing wrong with a little 3 minute pop). I have never felt moved to see another live show though. |

Right then, full review for Oasis gig #2 of this tour. Gig was cancelled last time and we only found out about it when we arrived at the venue, which was a bit shit to be honest. Dusseldorf isn't really a lovely town to go for a walk or something so we decided to skip it this time. Instead, we watched a few DVD's of the Lost Highway tour (Randers was an excellent show, damnit!) and I showed Thierry I could play Harlem Rain properly. All I needed was a guitar that stayed in tune and sadly that Stagg of his, pardon me, his dad, isn't one of them. Went of a few hours later and Thierry's brilliant one liners soon followed. Sadly I can't remember any of them anymore, but we were on a roll again. We hadn't had any dinner yet and with me and him both not having a proper McDonalds meal in a long time we decided it was time again for a good old meal of junkfood. Thierry really wanted to, because "they had good burgers lately" and I went for the good old chicken nuggets (20) and a groβe pommes mit mayonaise. We finished it off with a McFlurry and thought it was time to see if there was any action at the venue yet. It was a bit busier than last time and I realized what a difference it was with Belgium. When me and my brother arrived in Belgium it was only 30 people waiting outside, here it was about 300 people waiting. We, polite as we were, joined the que instead of skipping it like we normally do, and I went off to insult some German douchebags. There was one with a mustache who just went on about typical German sayings, to which I replied that a typical Dutch saying was "People with a mustache don't get laid". One of his friends laughed out loud, I asked him where he was from because he sounded like an American, and it turned out he was from Long Island, UK. I told him he sounded like someone from Texas and gone was his laughter. He asked me why I said such things to which I replied that I could say whatever I wanted to, I'm 6"8 so no one's going to argue with me anyway. Silence. When the doors opened we didn't bother with getting a good spot in the front row but actually just got near the soundboard and sat down watching the fine asses of girls from Germany. Although Thierry didn't think too highly of Oasis fans his opinion changed slightly when he found out that Oasis fangirls actually very often look decent instead of the horrible 50-year-old-but-I-feel-25-women you see at Bon Jovi shows. So far so good. Support act started, I had no idea who they were and I've still got no idea. They were from Germany, I think, so obviously shit. Thierry started rocking out to them though. No, I'm just kidding, he didn't. As a matter of fact, nobody did apart from the band but I've got to hand it to them, for a band from Germany they were pretty good. Still, I prefer the Hoff. Roughly at nine o' clock Oasis came on and what a difference this crowd was compared to Belgium! At the time in Belgium I thought it was a great crowd but when looking back they were horrible, this time in Dusseldorf it was different. About everybody in the crowd was jumping up (and down), looked very much like an English show. The seated area was experiencing a different show, I think, because it was hard to find anyone who clapped his hands there, but who cared anyway. Right from the opening song Oasis was into it, and Liam delivered much stronger vocals than he did before. When Lyla was finished I soon realized that Liam's vocals were the best he had ever delivered this tour so far and I hoped it'd stay that way. I looked at Thierry to see if he enjoyed it as much as the other 3.000 people in front of us did, but Thierry wasn't having it at all. Cigarettes & Alcohol, a song that's just made for live shows was brilliant, and this was the first Oasis show in the mainland of Europe of which I thought that the crowd really digged the band. It's also odd how a show with the same set as everywhere else can be so different when a crowd is much better. The Masterplan really was a highlight. Of the 2 shows before I've never been able to enjoy it. In 2005 I wasn't in the right mindset and can't remember much of it and in Brussels 2009 Noel had a cold and it just didn't feel right. Tonight it did. I got my first goosebumps at a Bon Jovi show (2005, Dry County in Dusseldorf) and this was the second time. The Masterplan was just brilliant, and when a band is capable of delivering such a performance they just can't go wrong anymore. Here's a bootleg recording I got my hands: http://www.bonjovi-archives.com/TheMasterplan.mp3 It's odd how I enjoyed this show so much while Thierry was so bored it just wasn't funny anymore. When the show was over I realized that Dusseldorf was the best show of the tour so far (apart from some UK dates) and I left pretty happy. The first thing Thierry did when we sat in the car again was put on some Metallica because he needed a little bit of proper music. It was good though, Metallica's back on track, Oasis are back on track, Bon Jovi are back on track, me and Thierry are back on track, now all I need is a girl with big titties and my life is complete. Next stop: Rome! Whoohoo! :) Salaam Aleikum, Sebastiaan |

I'am slowly hearing some Oasis every now and then and I think Cigarettes and Alcohol is a pretty bad ass song.
This one is one of the favorites for Oasis fans right? |
Morning Glory's my favourite :)

I really like Some Might Say & Don't Look Back In Anger lately :)

Noel played Whatever acoustically the other night in Japan:
It shows the lazy bastard can change the setlist if he wanted to. |

Oasis played a Japanese TV show called Music Station today and it was brilliant. Liam's voice was spot on on Shock and Falling Down was great too. The crowd loved them so much that they even did an encore (on a TV show, bear in mind) of Whatever, although sadly this was not broadcast.
